Stoo you Overrem thats clear- Name me your current top 10? Mine is here..nothing to hide- 1. A. Overeem Lineal MMA champ 2. C. Velaquez UFC champ 3. J. Dos Santos 4. F. Werdum 5. J. Barnett 6. D. Cormier 7. A. Silva 8. B. Lesnar 9. S. Carwin 10. F. Mir MMA started off as a splinter of all types of matchups but Pride in 1997, really gave it a big step up. The best of the best were their, M. Noguiera was in my mind the first MMA heavyweight champion, followed by Fedor for a good 8 years, who eventually lost to Werdum, who lost to Overeem. Ranking top 10 isnt based on who i think will beat who but at what current postion they are. To me Cain looks the best heavyweight around, but im not going to put him number 1 just becuase i think he will beat everyone, has to beat the number 1 who beat the man who beat the man. It how it works in combat sport. What if JDS were to fight and beat Cain, then lose to Mir? MMA can throw up all kinds of interesting situations. People saying Overeem is this and that are again being far to harsh. He taken out guys like T. Duffe, Thomspon MMA middle men with ease, taken out top 20 B. Rogers with ease, and has beaten the number 1/ lineal champ in a difficult and boring fight. Im more of fan of Werdum than Overeem but i dont let biased view points get in the way. Overeem was the better fighter but made to look ordinary but then does anyone really think many fighters are gonna tangle with Werdum on the ground? I think MMA by the year is getting stronger, you can now say the top 20 in the heavyweight division is getting closer to boxing, in terms of depth. Cain look incredible, i actually think his stand up is better than JDS, but we shall see Junior is a special fighter. Fedor drop off was incredible and sad, what a fighter, much like Ali demise losing to 8 fight Leon Spinks and getting gift decsions against Norton, looking horrible against Shavers and losing to Holmes and Berbick...it happens. After all Tyson lost to McBride. Lesnar if he carries on, and shows his will to win...then he will better what Bob Sapp did, if he quits after the Overeem fight then it shows his fighting heart wasnt there.
Well basically this is a fight between a real fighter and a fake fighter who pretends to be one. With both guys their power anything can happen, but normally this has **** written al over it. Overeem should annihilate Lesnar.
I think a fair top 10 would be: 1. JDS 2. Cain 3. Reem 4. Barnett 5. Werdum 6. Cormier 7. Lesnar 8. Bigfoot 9. Carwin 10. Mir
I don't understand having Barnett so far up when he's clearly done very little with respect to the last few years relative to some of the other fights who are active.
Nice input, why dont you post your top ten, so everyone has a clear idea...always good to discuss. Barnett has a nice win streak at the moment/
TBH fella, Im not sure there is a clear no 1 with all the upsets and underwhelming performances in the division, at least until Cain v JDS But off the top of my head, it would be something like this JDS - strongest resume of the last 2 years, but maybe missing that marque win that Werdum possess, we'll find out against CV Cain - UFC belt holder Josh - Not the strongest of comp in the last few years but beaten enough decent guys convincingly to warrant the 3rd spot imho Werdum - Beat the man, and has some other decent wins but his style is pretty limited Reem - One win over a top 10 guy, the rest is pish. But he's in the W column as a clear top 5, the rest of the division are rebounding off losses so you can rank them how you like but the bottom five would be in no particular order Cormier career high win, but relatively weak resume Big Foot Mir Big Nog Brock
Dumbest post in the entire thread. He is a National Champion. Aren't a whole lot of those walking around.
I don't agree with Overeem at No.1. But unless I am missing something the logic is not strong in your post.... Its who you beat that matters in rankings. How do you judge how good the guys you beat are...? Who they have beaten. In this case you beat the man who beat THE man.
National champion that does cartwheels and drops into the fetal position when someone throws a punch at him.:yikes
This is MMA there is such a diverse skill set necessary that unless you have beaten more than a few top 10 guys how can you be number 1??? K-1 means **** all as we saw in the Werdum fight
You talking about the other National Champion wrestlers he fought? What's happened to everyone else? Same **** that will happen to Overoid. Put on their back and pounded on.
