So in reality Overeem is the 5th ranked fighter in you view point, I have him number 1 but overall I believe he is the 3rd best heavy at the moment. The most important thing you said was their is no clear number 1, even when people rank great fighters, more often than not their isnt a top linear progression. I believe in grouping fighters together- For example in my view, Fedor was still in the top group after his loss to Silva, but dropped off with his 3rd straight loss just recently. If i could look at rankings in a different way id say - Top Group - JDS, Velaquez, Overeem, Barnett 2nd group - Werdum, Silva, Lesnar, Mir, Carwin, 3rd group - Cormier, Fedor, C. Kongo, Nogueira, In fact 3rd group havent really had time to think about it. Unless you do a A. Silva or Fedor where you constantly win and over elite fighters then to rank fighters its difficult to do. I have feeling Cormier will win the tournament now, Would Cormier fight Velaquez though
I agree with the groups, the 3rd tier is pretty interchangeable but the top two are pretty solid And win or lose, I think if Dan puts up a good showing against Josh in the final he'll definitely be UFC bound, as well as Barnett too I dont think SF will last much more beyond the HW tournament, except for a year or two as a feeder org, it's credibility is going down the pan slowly but surely and it's only a matter of time before the likes of Gilbert and Hendo jump ship imo
