Tough fight to call. If they were the same size I'd take Martinez in a wash, but Pavlik is among one of the biggest fighters in the game.

Also Sergio fights nothing like Hopkins. While their speed, agility and guile is near the same, Hopkins is much much better at nuetralizing his opponent defensively. Sergio leaves his hands at his waste and depends on his natural athletisicm and forsight to see him through.

Im going to watch their most recent fights and decide the a winner. Sergio is one of my favorite fighters and I'll be rooting for him though. Even though I like Pavlik and he's a midwestern fighter

I've done that before in a couple of boo's seventy other threads on why he's confident that Pavlik will win. I just don't feel like spending 50,000 words repeating the same ****.

Short version: I think Pavlik has the edge in that I don't think Martinez has the resilience to stand up to Pavlik's power if Pavlik lands his power shots. But, I also think that Martinez is capable of avoiding Pavlik's plodding offense for twelve rounds and counter-punching his way to a points win. Do I regard a Martinez win as the most likely outcome? Probably not, but it's closer than boo makes out and winding up you lot is both easy and fun.

I'm sure your boyfriend can fight his own battles, btw.

I will not be surprised if Martinez were to beat Pavlik. Martinez has had time to train, unlike his win over Williams.

Heh. The thing is, I actually quite like Pavlik. He's humble, hard-working, has no small amount of ability and uses what he has very well.

The fact of the matter, though, is that, if he was from Uzbekistan or Latvia, he wouldn't get anywhere near as much play from these 'boxing experts' as he gets given.

I can't pick a winner at this time. Pavlik has the power to stop Martinez, but Martinez had time to train for this fight and he is good fight, he beat the crap out of Williams.

Martinez probably has a small amount of latino blood in him, you better root for Pavlik just to be sure. :good

Look at Sergio's left eye. A welterweight who throws mostly arm punches did that. That man has no defense against a right hand.

Pavlik's fight with Espino isn't really much help. His left isn't right yet and he doesn't establish his jab. If you are going to put money on he fight, I'd go back to the Rubio fight to get a comparison.

First time Martinez touches his back to the ropes he's getting molested. If he goes there often enough he'll surely get raped.

    Sergio's getting stopped.

I don't know why so many people consider him some sort of pugilistic master. He's not hard to hit and thinks he's slicker than he really is. The guy isn't B-Hop. He doesn't have beautiful footwork and movement - and he commonly makes the fundamental mistake of backing straight up w/ his hands down by his waist.

He's not durable enough to take Pav's punishing power for that long either.

Lampley said during the PW broadcast that he thought Sergio was the fastest 154 pounder hed ever seen...wtf? SRL? Norris? SRR when he weighed in around the lmw limit? Those guys weren't faster?

I think a lot of people have built him up to be more than what he really is. And what he is, is a good solid speedy fighter. Nothing more.

On the other hand, Kelly is getting sold short. His length, reach, jab, workrate, variety, and power are very formidable. He's a nightmare for these current mw's.
