Why is it that when a close fight - or sometimes a robbery - happens in Germany - some people immediately mention "because it was in Germany". But when it happens in the US, people just call it a stinking robbery but do not mention it as another "American robbery"? Germany has had a couple of "must win" fighters - Ottke and Abraham come to mind, but otherwise plenty of foreign fighters have won in Germany - even in relatively close fights. I think the exact samething happen in the US. "Have to win" fighters are fighters that HBO or Showtime have invested heavily in and have big plans for - meeting these fighters in the US is AT LEAST as much a disadvantage as meeting a German "has-to-win" fighter in Germny. Who are these protected "has-to-win" fighters in th US currently? It used, among others, to be De la Hoya, Lacy etc. and now Williams is one of these. Who else?
Germany is one of the best places to host fights, everything is professional there and I never had any problems with how they deal with things. Both Germany and USA rank #1 to me as a professional place to host boxing fights/events. Those people that complain about Germany need to look into the fiascoes in England, Mexico, Canada and other places.
Can only agree with this, bad decisions happen on both sides. But you can get a fair shake in Germany as well, Dariusz Michalczewski vs Gonzalez comes to mind... heck this was a fight i personally thought Dariusz just eeked out but could have gone either way. Yet they gave it to Gonzalez.
Canada is becoming a nightmare for any foreign fighter against the hometown hero.Marlon Byrd is the resident arbiter.:dead
Oh hell no. I know you didnt go there. Mexico is known for being very fair actually. I remember when Vanda lost the first fight to JCC JR. the people were pissed off at the decision which was in all a close fight and they started pelting them with bottles along with Jr. and his corner.
I don't think I would single out any individual country (except perhaps Korea during the Olympics..) because every country (also the US) has a fighter or fighters that are always supposed to win and where the promoter has banked heavily on their career. Here are three that HAD to win - no matter what happened in the fight: De la Hoya could have lost to Sturm Abraham could have lost to Miranda. Bute could have lost to Andrade. And so on...
