So more than 6 Months into his DAZN Venture. How do you think he’s fared ? UK Shows, whether it’s Saturday Fight Nights or even big UK PPV Events have gone down the hole because of DAZN’s entrance. Eddie’s slick way of dealing and interacting with the Press has helped give DAZN more attention and PR in the US and UK compared to someone like De La Hoya. He hasn’t really done anything special yet, just basic 6/7/8K Shows. Joshua v Miller will really be his first mega card and let’s see how it fares in the US and on DAZN. Canelo v Jacobs I count as really a Golden Boy Led Card. His work ethic still seems top notch, still gives regular access to Press but just seems that fizz has gone. His classic salesman tactics of starting beef at press conferences, salesman type rants into the camera seems to have faded. I really think we’ve seen the peak of UK Eddie Hearn between 2016-2018. Can’t believe he says basic things like the US is different from the UK and that one state in the US is different to another. This literally should’ve been basic research and knowledge from Hearn. We’re just a small island, US is a behemoth with so many different cultures and races. Hearn also seems to have struggled to learn the race aspect in America. Especially when it comes to boxing. It does play a big part. UFC has a very different demographic to Boxing. Hispanic Americans and African Americans should be his target for boxing. His messed up relations with PBC hasn’t helped. How PBC still have managed to retain the majority of their talent despite offers from ESPN and DAZN to raid their fighters, says a lot about Haymon and how his fighters respect him and which Hearn should’ve known about in detail. I still don’t see how Hearn will make inroads on DAZN. Joshua v Wilder could still land on SHOWTIME PPV. Canelo v Golovkin 3- is their still any demand for a third fight. What else is their that will get mega subs for DAZN. I wish both the best, and really hope DAZN enters the UK Market for the next Preimer League/Champions League auctions. As it will be hilarious to see how it all plays out between Sky/Hearn/DAZN/ Warren and BT (who will be exposed as they are the ones who have said they will reduce investment in sports and are the secondary broadcaster) and a shout-out to see how Adam Smith’s interviews would sound like...
It's still very early to say. It's an enormous operation with a huge budget - in 'normal' business, you wouldn't be able to accurately measure quantifiable success in 6 months or so and I don't believe you can here either. He's in the public eye and in entertainment, so there'll always be more scrutiny - but in my opinion, it's difficult to read into it much before 18 months/2 years. It depends how quickly DAZN want success too - for all I know, they might want to be a genuine rival to all the big networks showing boxing within 12 months so maybe I'm being too lenient.
Joshua v Miller wasn't ever a mega card. It's basically a poor UK PPV happening in America. Most of the tickets have been bought be travelling Brits. It may aswell as just taken place over here.
It's an odd one all round, this card. The shiteness of the under card had largely gone unnoticed so far
