Next time you see Jeff you should let him know that fans are still discovering his fights and career and think he is a great fighter. Also for the record I think he would have won against Pintor but it would have been a great fight!!
Great summary, and it shows you don't need to have lots of glossy superstars padding your record to be a great fighter. All the guys you listed were excellent! As Flo_Raiden said I suspect if he had got a Pintor fight and won (or perhaps a series with Lupe) he would been more well known and possibly getting into the top 10. On skills alone I think he is top 10?
It's blatantly obvious Chandler wasn't a shadow of himself. He had nothing all night. Such a shame he nosedived when he did.
It's sad how some excellent fighters (Like" Joltin" Jeff) can be forgotten . Especially when considering how much network TV coverage he had. Chandler was a staple on CBS fights in the early 80's . Almost all his championship fights were aired live back in the day. One heck of a fighter, very skilled, (When considering the lack of a serious armature background ,and how polished he was, it's easy to assume he was just a "natural.") tough, and didn't shy away from in close fighting. He was one of the very best of the 80's and underappreciated today.
Here’s some Chandler posts of him recently: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
These are awesome, love the video of you taking on Jeff for a bit of sparring, he's still got the moves!
I've rated Pintor highly ever since researching him after reading a book about Johnny Owen and their tragic fight, though I agree with you and Flo_Raiden that prime Chandler was even better.
Bobby Joe Young vs Kevin Howard. Young was a hot prospect meeting Howard and supposedly took a thumb which swelled his eye closed and he took a beating losing a decsion. If Im not mistaken alot of boxing insiders say that fight ruined Young as a contender.
Didn't Bobby Joe Young beat Aaron Pryor at some point? Also Kevin Howard gave SSL a scare and knocked him down in one of his numerous comebacks, I think it may have put him back into retirement for 3 years before he came back to fight Hagler?
Exactly. Young was the only guy to beat Pryor, although Pryor was really a mess by then. And Howard was SRL's comeback fight after his first retirement and Howard, despite losing, gave SRL a big enough scare that a lot of people thought SRL was finished for good. I had forgotten that Young and Howard had fought each other a few years before either of their more famous fights.
