At this point I'd say no. He would need to beat Froch and Ward and then we know more. Hagler was something else! He really was.

Hagler lost to Willie Monroe. Off course he can lose, no one is unbeatable.

I'd assume we'd be matching a prime Hagler against prime Golovkin in any mythical match up not a 21 year old Hagler. The fact Hagler KO'ed him in a rematch 11 months later shows Hagler was still improving at that very early stage.

We don't really know how GGG would perform against any top quality fighter in a mythical discussion because we're not sure about GGG's attributes yet. It's hard to know what GGG is truly capable of when all he's doing is fighting overly matches cans.

    Geale - Ex world champ
Macklin & Murray should have won belts.

    Stop being an idiot.

All of this talk about GGG having great skills, 4 million amateur wins, seen every style etc etc etc. Yet he's NEVER had to show any of it during his pro career due to the poor level of competition he's faced. Granted, this isn't all his fault, as the MW landscape is pretty poor at the moment, but he's not needed to show much skill thus far as he's been able to bomb out pretty much everyone he's faced.

My issue with Golovkin is that he's not exactly hard to find and the few times I've seen him eat combinations and back up he's been completely nullified. Fortunately for him he's not fought anyone who can sustain the pressure or punch with power and conviction. He does appear to have a very solid chin however, which he would need, as MMH will be finding him all night with that long jab.

For me, MMH wins by TKO or land slide decision. GGG opponents have all had one thing in common. They all backed up, but be real, MMH wont take a backwards step. He would impose his iron will, mentally break down GGG, back him up and lay a pretty one sided beating on him. This is all based on what I have 'seen', not what I 'believe' Golovkin is capable of. Lets see GGG fight someone of note before we put him in to a fantasy mismatch.

I question whether or not you actually saw video of a prime Marvelous Hagler.

The only accurate statement you made in your post is that he's a bit smaller. Everything else is just subjective silliness.

If Willie MOnroe jr was catching Golovkin inside the pocket with relative ease, I have no doubt Hagler could get to him.

And Golovkin's chin should look good up to this point, he's really taken on nobody of note up to this juncture in his professional career. Hagler took a prime Tommy Hearn's best shots and kept coming after him. And that wasn't even a prime Hagler that he faced in 1985.

Go watch some footage of the Marvelous one from 1979-1981. I think you might change your stance a little bit with your rudimentary assessment.

Wow Im getting some hate here.
Trolls dont like when they are victims.

    I know the truth hurts.

I never said that Golovkin wins. I said he would not be stopped.

Hagler couldnt stop a ballooned former 135 pounder and he's gonna stop a guy who was never dropped ?

    So this is your rebuttal?

Him not knocking out one of the 10 greatest fighters in the history of the sport makes him some kind of scrub? Hagler was a little past his prime at the time he took on Duran FWIW.

And I think people are criticizing you because you said trading inside the pocket with GGG would be suicide for Hagler. Hagler fought a lot of guys inside the pocket and never wavered in his come-forward style.

The truth doesn't hurt at all. Your lack of knowledge of the great fighters of yesteryear is what's "hurting" your assessment on how this fight would go.

Go see a prime Hagler fight Alan Minter. Now try to visualize what that version of him would like like facing someone unproven like a 33 year old Gennady Golovkin. I think it would be suicide for Gennady to stay in the pocket and exchange with a great inside fighter like Hagler.

And to those saying it's hard to tell how GGG would do since he isn't retired yet, the guy is almost 34 years old. I'm pretty sure his career won't be lasting more than a couple more years. I feel fairly certain this is the best version anyone will see of Gennady.

Triple G hasn't fought anyone that compares to Hagler or Hearns.

Not really triple G's fault... but still

until he does it's hard to compare him to Hagler.

I love watching GGG fight and yeah, he's an absolute beast in the current MW division. Having said that, I just rewatched Hagler vs Minter which is probably the first boxing match I can remember back in 1980. That Hagler vs GGG would be one of the all time great fights but I just can't see GGG beating him and definitely not in that mood! GGG would be up against a fearless, come forward masterly inside fighter with a bullet proof chin and more power than he's ever faced before.

I just see Hagler as being GGG's Kryptonite.
