What I think is most annoying about Bute is the fact that he's generally ranked as #1 in the division, I'd imagine purely on the grounds that he's unbeaten. I don't think he's anything special. Andrade had already been dominated by Kessler - Bute got a gift in the first fight Miranda is a C-class/*European class type opponent with a shaky chin Magee/Brinkley similarly * Before anyone starts being pedantic I know he's not European, I'm using the turn of phrase If Kessler looks alright in this comeback fight and Bute dominates him or takes him out I'll sit up and take notice. Until then I'm well and truly a sceptic. His best punch to me is the right hook to the body, which probably matches up pretty well with Froch, though if Kessler is tight at the weight (which I've always believed) it could be a factor also. But he's hittable with the right hand and if you catch him with the uppercut coming in I think you're in business. It's probably unlikely as they seem to be friends, but I think Johnson would take him to hell and back.
nobody with any sense has him ahead of Ward, Froch or Kessler. Theres nothing but B & C level fighters on his resume. Honestly I think Sartiosons domination of Gevor is more impressive than anything Bute had done.
I just can't believe he's fighting Mendy next :-( [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4fWbwyt5e8[/ame] I know he's the mandatory contender but He's absolutely terrible..... if this goes three rounds I'd be amazed. It's one of the worst mandatory mismatches in recent years.
Nothing can be as bad as Salita Not many promoters will ditch a decent ticket seller for not wanting to take tough fights..... usually it's the promoter shielding them. Salita was ditched by both DiBella and Arum because they wanted to put him in with Malignaggi and Cotto respectively. It was quite an interesting piece in Boxing Monthly...... Arum said he always wanted too much money and was offered a million dollars to fight Cotto at MSG and balked at it, then he went to DiBella and was offered a few quid to be Paulie's comeback opponent after the Cotto fight..... wouldn't play ball. The story behind him was quite good, shame he was ****ing useless in the ring :-(
Salita and his team had there eyes fixed onRees and then Kotelnik as an easy route to a title for over a year. Once Khan came along they had to go for it.
True. Though he'd have been dominated and stopped by any of Cotto, Malignaggi and Kotelnik.... probably Rees too. In answer to your other question I've not seen any of Mendy's other fights, but simply looking at formlines, what was really a one round blowout against Bika doesn't look good. When you think Bika has faced three good fighters and lost to all of them clearly on points.
Not sure about the Paulie stoppage. Just think theres been far worse fighters than Mendy get mandatory shots in the past few years.
There probably have been, but not many in the big 3 and certainly not many that have been mandated to fight a beltholder as good as Bute is. Ricky Hatton had better mandatories given to him and told them to get lost.....
