I think Williams is silent because.... ...he never has been that keen on fighting Pavlik. ...double down on that first statement post Martinez. Before that fight I think Paul thought he might have a shot at Pavlik, but now he and his team realize he can't evem handle a blown up super welter ...Goosen ran interference to save Paul's reputation, now they can say Arum refused their (ridiculous) terms. ...they are trying to figure out what to do (which weight division do we go for? against who? what if we have another Quintana 1 debacle against a nobody we are screwed? gee, maybe we should cash out vs Pavlik before we get upset which nearly happened and probably should have?)
Now there are "rumors" and more people repeating that a Pavlik fight is worth $10 million so even the career payday being offered isn't good enough. Kelly's career high is $3 against Bhop. Down since then.
Christ. Neither guy is scared of fighting each other. It would have gone ahead only Pavlik got a legit injury and rightfully pulled out. 2 weeks is a long time when your training and preparing hard. Williams has moved on in the meantime and is assessing other options like he's entitled to do. Keep your knickers on, have a bit of patience, and it will more than likely happen in the next year or so.
Knickers? I don't think we wear that crap over here. Kelly's hand was not really ready to go two weeks later. No way Espino keeps getting inside if it is. Kelly would have kept him at range most of the night if the left was working good.
Good post. More or less my assessment that I haven't been bothered to post for fear of getting dragged into handbags.
I can't completely agree with your assessment. I don't think KP totally trusted the left in the first couple rounds. I think that after that Espino's tactics pissed KP off a bit, and he just thought **** it, I'm gonna stand right here and beat you bloody. In the post-fight interview Bernstien ask Kelly if he thought that was the kind of dominant performance he needed. Kelly laughed and said, "No! I don't need to stand there and trade shots with another fighter when I don't have to." In other words, I think KP CHOSE to fight the way he did. There is just no way he could throw those body shots and uppercuts the way he did if the left hand was a problem.
"According to [Cameron] Dunkin, while the Williams camp originally agreed to a 60-40 split in favor of Pavlik; they now want an even division of the dough. That's not going to happen, not when Pavlik has the leverage for selling tickets and television interest. Dunkin said the split for the December bout would have been approximately $1.7 million for Pavlik and $1.2 for Williams." http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/01/haggling_delays_a_kelly_pavlik.html "Dan Goosen refused to discuss details of the original terms."
