I have tickets to the Cotto-Margarito fight. Nearly 20k people already bought tickets. I read that a few people were even flying in from Europe to attend. Even for those that didn't buy tickets, let Top Rank know how badly they just made the sport look. Bombard their website and leave a comment (idea taken from a fellow user): http://www.toprank.com/ Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'contact us'. I will no longer support Top Rank with my $$$, and my two favorite active fighters are Cotto and Pac. No more PPVs or attending their shows.
They should just replace Margarito with Pawel Wolak or Vanes Martirosyan. Moving it to another city is a stupid move at this point.
ttt Email the NY commission also for their disregard of the fans. Why was chairperson Melvina Lathan present at the September press conference? Why did she assure the media that there were no issues? Why not make an announcement that Margarito might not be cleared two months ago when the fight was announced? This is going to be a nightmare if they have to move it outside of the region. They should be looking at venues in Jersey, Conneticutt, Pennsylvania, D.C, and Maryland.
Jersey would seem the logical choice in order to placate the fans who are coming in to town for the fight. Otherwise that's a **** load of refunds to hand out.
Has the official word been issued yet? I thought not until tomorrow? If so, then I smell a huge class-action suit. Some smart lawyer will surely contact all the ticket-holders and put something into action.
Normally I would ignore all rumors but the SI boxing writer who is usually solid says the fight will get moved. Arum doesn't sound confident at all either.
You're probably right, Top Rank is in trouble. They need to make a law that requires fighters to get liscensed before tickets are sold.
Is the countdown next to see how many of the undercards now fall apart? Boxing you gotta love it (or really HATE it sometimes).
The problem is that they can't move it to the Prudential Center (in Newark, still only a 30 minute commute from MSG) because Main Events has an exclusive contract with them. By the time you get to Philly, Atlantic City or Foxwoods, it's already an extra 2 - 3 hour drive from NYC if you have plans to be in NYC, and you're not within hotel range. I guess another possibility would be to try moving it to the Meadowlands where the Devils and Nets used to play, but there's no good mass transit access there.
