Seriously, last bump; does anyone know much about these martial arts?

As I gather, Lethwei (Burmese) is the most brutal, allowing headbutts, takedowns and bare knuckles.

I know of Lethwei... is it fairly similar to Muay Chao Cherk right?

I was talking about it with my Kru last night!!! :D

    What about it?

I'm just very interested in those Indochinese martial arts that aren't quite so well known as Muay Thai. They all seem very similar; I don't claim to know that much, but I understand that Tomoi places emphasis on knees and elbows?

A lot of Lethwei fights I've watched (not in person) seem very, very tough... They're probably the toughest fighters I've seen, albeit lacking the diversity of Muay Thai practitioners. In general they fight at a faster pace and work on landing one or two techniques - but they are delivered hard, with bare knuckles...

I was just wondering if anyone could document the distinct differences between the arts. Pradal Serey, for instance - what differentiates it from the others?

Ah okay... well Muay Choa Cherk is bound fist rope fighting. Similar to Muay Boran and later Muay Thai. A lot of downward elbows to the top of the head.

    Also headbutts in close :D

As far as your last question i'm sorry but i have no idea... i could ask my Kru if you like? I will see him tomorrow as we are going to another camp to help a chap out who has a fight at the weekend in London.

If he doesn't know then i could maybe find out from Tony Moore or Tony Myers...

Also as a side note as far as i see it most of the time it is generally a name change as the art is from another country...

For example in the USA Football is called Soccer... same sport but called something else, and played in another style.

That is what i take from it anyway...

Yeah, worth asking about to see what light could be shed on these martial arts :good

You may be right about the different country thing, infact a lot of people say it's all Muay Thai with different names; others are adament that there are specific techniques unique to Lethwei or Tomoi or whatever. I definitely think the Burmese are the most brutal fighters I've seen so far, though, and the Thais seem most sophisticated and very kick-based compared to the others. Lethwei boxers seem to use a lot of strong punches.

Personally i used punches, elbows and straight kicks... and that is all really. The round kick get blocked all the time but can come in handy from time to time.

Well rope fighting and bare fist fighting are now illegal in Thailand so that is why you will see more aggressive fights in Myanmar...
