I hate to say this, but boxing has become a farse. The best fights don't happen. We fans should boycott boxing until they decide on one governing body and get rid of the multiple belts. Allow me to illustrate how ridiculous boxing has become. Heavyweight: Valuev is the WBA "champion", who refuses to fight either of the Klitschko brothers, who won't fight each other for obvious reasons. Almost no interest here. Cruiserweight: This division is useless, and I can hardly name one fighter from it. If they did away with it, we'd have a HW division with small, fast fighters who can finally KO the big fat giants who hold the titles (like Marciano and Holyfield did). David Haye might do this. Light Heavyweight: Hopkins is 44 years old and is still the one of the best. But he doesn't want to fight Chad Dawson, and we can't blame an old man for picking his fights at this age. Super Middleweight: Froch, Kessler and Bute still have not fought each other and haven't fought much real opposition at SMW. They seem content to share the belts. Middleweight: Pavlik, Abraham and Sturm have never fought each other, and never will. This is the worst division. Welterweight: The best welterweights have never fought each other: Mayweather, Cotto, and Williams. Mayweather and Cotto are picking on lightweights, and Williams can hardly find someone who wants to fight him. Do I need to go on? I'll concede that the lower weight classes are better, thanks to a few fighters like Pacman and Darchinyan who take risks. But boxing is nowhere near as good as it was in the old days. I'm going back to youtube to watch Sugar Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, Rocky Marciano...
How is the CW division useless? It's a slight on your part that you don't know any CW's. Did you watch Adamek-Cunningham by any chance? Have you heard of the SMW tournament that's going to happen? Only Bute is missing, but even without him it's a great tournament. Bute is rematching Andrade which is another great fight.
How about this - 1 - Vasquez v Marquez, my pick for the best trilogy in the history of the sport happened last year. 2 - We've had multiple great, great fights already this year and loads of upsets. 3 - SMW are red hot. The up and coming tournie is full of interesting fights and Bute has just been in a thriller with Andrade which they are re-matching. Brilliant. Froch has just arrived on the scene and Kessler looks about to land. 4 - WW is red hot. Pacquiao has just gate-crashed this division. SO has Marquez, Mayweather has just returned. Sugar Shane will fight anyone. 5 - LHW did you ****ing miss Pascal-Diaconu? I will tell you the answer. The answer is "yes". It was a FOTY candidate, out of nowhere. If they don't do it again (and those of us who watched hope they do) then Pacal is another top line property in this weakish divisin. But Pascal-Dawson, Pascal-Hopkins or Dawson-Hopkins are all great fights. May not get made, but let's give em a chance before we ban em. 6 - STFU and GTFO
So, a division that is "useless" and has no one worth knowing in it will save the HW division. Great reasoning. And it's a pretty good division if you actually paid any attention. Boxing is a very imperfect sport and frustrating to be a fan of, that's very true. But most of your examples are full of ****. I'm only bothering to highlight one.
No, the current state of boxing is not great. But the Klitschko's who rule the HW's, for all the flack they get, ARE in fact fighting the best opponents available to them. Adamek is an exciting fighter who's willing to fight anyone, and who took his crown from the legit #1 at the time, Cunningham, in a war. The top guy at 175, Chad Dawson, earned his spot by beating Admek, G.Johnson and Tarver (2x), and is scheduled to take on Johnson, who's the most deserving contender out there and who gave him by far his toughest fight, again (i'm ignoring my man BHop for now, he's 44 and semi-retired, maybe he will come back and fight again, but right now he's not really an active part of the division). What can i say about SMW? The whole tournament thing seems to actually be coming off, and 6 of the best fighters in the division will be squaring off in what is a great initiative and a great developement for the sport. At 160 and 154, indeed little is going on, but sometimes you simply have quiet times in a certain weightclass. Remember, only a few years back, the welterweights were ruled by guys like Judah, Spinks and Baldomir. Now it's the hottest division. Besides, there's still Paul Williams, who might fight an undefeated titleholder in Dzindziruk in his next fight and down the line may have a big fight with Pavlik. Welterweight is the hottest division right now, and nobody can claim that the best guys in that class aren't looking to fight eachother imo. Mosley fought Cotto and Margarito, and next may fight undefeated Berto. Cotto fought Mosley, Margo, Clottey and looks to be headed towards a fight with p4p king Pacquiao. Pac fought DLH and Hatton and now possibly Cotto. PBF is coming back against Marquez and who knows? Even he might take a fight that he has a very legitimate chance of losing next, like with the Pac-Cotto winner. I think i made my point: every fight we want doesn't happen, but a lot of the right fights are getting made and as a real boxing fan, i prefer to applaud and try to stimulate the positive developements than to dwell on the bad ones.
We need a governing body to control the WBC,WBA,IBF,WBO AND THE PROMOTERS and to sell fights to countrys exclusivly. EXAMPLE MANNY PACQUIAO VS COTTO IN BEIJING,CHINA. or PAVLIK VS FROCH IN MOSCOW, RUSSIA or SHANE MOSLEY VS FLOYD MAYWEATHER JNR IN JOHANNASBURG SOUTH AFRICA YOU WOULD SELL OUT A 60,000+ SOCCER STADIUM WITH ANY OF THOSE FIGHTS AND IT WOULD BE SOMETHING TOTTALLY DIFFRENT AND DIFFRENT KIND OF ATMOSPHERE FOR THE FIGHTERS TO DEAL WITH. YOU WOULD MAKE BOXING A GLOBAL BRAND INSTEAD OF A SPORT WHERE ITS FULL OF ****ING DIRTY POLOTICS AND BIAS. fights should be taking place all over the world not the same ****ing venues all the time am sorry but las vegas is not the only place in the world where big boxing events should happen.TV companys are wasting ****ing stupid money on fights when they should be spreding the cost to last the whole year. One/TWO ShowS a week! JESUS ****ING CHRIST IS IT TO MUCH TO ASK FOR
i responded to this thread with a long story and i could have put this guy in his place so much easier!:good
