Are people really debating whether or not Corrales and Castillo were better fighters than Gatti? Geez.

Corrales-Castillo was also fought at a very high level. Just because it was brutal it doesn't mean they lacked skills. It was a great display of in-fighting, something that is missing today. Combos that effectively mixed to the body and head (particuarly Corrales throwing a right hook to the body, left hook to the body, left hook to the head). Positioning on the inside, whether it be a slighs step to the side, or moving your upper body to get a better angle. Brilliant counterpunching (check out Corrales's left hooks at the end of the 7th and the one that basically ended the fight before the final flurry, Castillo visibily winces in his face and backs up to the ropes).

I wouldn't knock Gatti-Ward that much about them being "bums" or anything like that. It wasn't a masterclass but it wasn't ugly brawling either. Foreman and Lyle were better heavyweights than Gatti and Ward were junior welterweights, but I think Gatti-Ward 1 had more "artistic value" than Foreman and Lyle and the action was less sloppy.

Agreed. Actually, Vazquez-Marquez 1-3 are better all the way through than any trilogy for consistent action and close competition. Ali-Frazier 2 was a clinchfest. Gatti-Ward 2 and 3 were pretty one-sided and lesser fights than Vazquez-Marquez 1-3. Bowe-Holyfield had 3 excellent fights, even the 3rd I thought gets overlooked at times, it had brutal in-fighting and Bowe nearly being knocked out, but I would still rank Vazquez-Marquez 1-3 higher for closer competition and consistent action. Barrera-Morales 2 was an okay fight, nothing special about it.

Gatti's other great fights get overlooked, as well as Ward's. His fights with Augustus, Neary, Green, and Diaz are all better and certainly more competitive than the last 2 Gatti fights.

Gatti vs ruelas and Rodriguez, while shorter, I liked more than the gatti ward fights. Favorite fight since Ali Frazier though has to be Bradley provodnikov.

    I agree with you...

I actually enjoyed Morales Barrera trilogy more than Gatti Ward trilogy as well...

I think Gatti v Ward is better in a lot of ways, but Corrales v Castillo was the greatest fight I ever saw live (on TV not in person) as the end was amazing.

The mouthpiece stuff taints it a bit for future viewings.. but I love the Gatti v Ward fights.. just heart and soul laid out in the ring.

..but Marquez v Vasquez (ignore the 4th fight, Izzy shouldn't have been allowed in the ring) would like to have a word with you all.

The 2nd Corrales vs Castillo fight was a bigger mismatch than Gatti vs Ward II. Castilo came in with a huge weight advantage and blasted Chico out. That was that Gatti showed some skill and outboxed Ward in their second fight. Corrales vs Castillo isn't even a trilogy and shouldn't be talked about together.

I didn't like the weight advantage situation in the rematch. It stunk to high heaven. Castillo was too big. That's not a victory to be so proud of! It tainted his achievement in my eyes.

The Barrera vs Morales had real bad blood behind it. Tijuana vs Mexico City. I hear the fighters from Mexico City area think they are better than other countrymen. Mexico City is notorious for kid nappings. Those people who were doing that Kidney selling to people was all based nearby. They kinapp you and take your kidneys and sell them. They had ice chests ready to transport the organs. You would wake up in a bathtub full of ice missing your kidneys.

Gstti-Ward, Morales-Barrera, Corrales-Castillo. Which one was the most savage fight?

Corrales actually outweighed Castillo unofficially on fight night. Castillo didn't make weight though, so we don't know how much it would have weakened him if he had gotten down to 135. Castillo was big for LW. A member of Castillo's team actually got caught trying to put his foot under the scale.

All these people were mad when the 3rd fight got cancelled because Castillo again didn't make weight, but I though what happened in the weigh-in for the rematch was worse. People were just mad because they didn't get to see a fight.

To me, a member of your team deliberately trying to cheat the scales by putting his foot below it is much much worse than Castillo simply outgrowing the division, which is what happened in the aborted 3rd fight.

Too many here seem to be confusing the quality of the fight with the quality of the fighter. Ward and Gatti will not judged as all-time greats, but neither will Corrales or Castillo. Too many available titles have watered down the value of a championship belt. In an undisputed era, could be that none of them would have been champion.

To call Ward or Gatti bums is laughable. They were world class professionals. They'd have beaten the ..."stuffing" out of any us within less than 30 seconds and everybody here knows it.

Let's be honest, none of the above compare to Vazquez-Marquez I, II, or III.

Contrary to what some people think, Gatti could box if he chose to. He was just a banger at heart and he could bang. One of my all time favorite fighters.
