The Ring and Lineal are two different titles. For example, Floyd Mayweather Jr never won The Ring title at 130, but he won the Lineal title and he was definitely the man to beat in that weight class, after beating Hernandez. However, a fighter can win both The Ring and Lineal titles with one fight.

Shane Mosley was the 147 Lineal champion by beating Antonio Margarito.

Let's start with De La Hoya vs Whitaker, cause I don't want to go way back.

De La Hoya won it from Pernell Whitaker, Trinidad won it from DLH then moved up, Mosley won the vacant lineal title from De La Hoya, Forrest won it from Mosley, Mayorga won it from Forrest, Spinks won it from Mayorga, Judah won it from Spinks, Baldomir won it from Judah, Mayweather won it from Baldomir then moved up, making it vacant. Margarito beats Cotto, but does not become Ring or Lineal champion, at this point it's up for grabs. Mosley beats Margarito and becomes Lineal champion, Mayweather beats Mosley.

Mayweather is The Ring and Lineal WW champion, deal with it. He already schooled Marquez, who's the second best WW.
