I've never defended GGG, I think his competition level has been weak, but if he wants to stay at 160 lbs and wait out Canelo, I dont see anything wrong with that.

Mayweather is another matter as he's been avoiding certain styles of fighters, most recently the faster Amir Khan when Mayweather himself polled the fans to pick his next opponent. Amir Khan won that poll and Mayweather fought Maidana instead.
We already know Mayweather can beat Maidana's type style, can he handle speed would be my question mark.
The last time Mayweather went up against real speed was when he matched up with MENTAL MIDGET Zab Judah.
Judah won the first 5 rounds and true to his mental midget form in the totality of his career, he loses total focus.
If it had been just Mayweather where Judah went to pieces, you could argue that Mayweather just made the adjustments, but we all know Judah loses focus against most anyone thats at a high level, so Mayweather shouldn't be given all the credit in that situation.

Wow, Judah's speed really troubles Mayweather, I'd sure like to see him against speed better than his again. No such luck, Mayweather doesn't fight those!
Oh wait a minute, he did fight Manny Pacquiao. Literally a midget who dwarfed him in height and reach.......and as an added bonus, the midget had been KTFO not that long ago by a career featherweight.

I stopped reading when you said zab won the first 5 rounds. Either you don't know how to score a fight or you will say anything just to be heard. They split the first 4 rounds and zab won the 12th. He won 3 rounds in that fight go back and rewatch it. Lastly khan isn't faster than pbf. Pbf would beat khan to the punch all day long pbf has better reflexes than khan who's a mental midget himself. Khan can't out box pbf nor can he knock him out so how does he win? Maidana was more deserving than khan was he came off a huge win against broner while khan lost to Garcia and just went life and death with diaz. Maidana stylistically is a harder fight for pbf because he's physical dirty and throws a looping overhand right. Khan on the other hand is pretty textbook pbfs defense is designed to nullify textbook guys like khan. Pbf is a horrible match up for him and bears him going away.

Divac I can tell you didn't actually watch boxing or Floyd back in his prime. Floyd was the guy being ducked not the other way around. Yeah I know it's popular to call Floyd ducker, cherrypicker, but it's easy to draw criticism when the boxing world considers you the best fighter within 5 weight ranges

My God people, my God... :-(

I started this thread to talk about the comparison between 2 great fighters and already within the first 2 posts has been about Floyd Mayweather. Stick with the f#cking topic guys! Are people really this fixated that they feel the need to post about him on a thread that has nothing to do with the f#cking guy? Jesus...

At least divac had the courtesy to respond to the topic.

    Excellent response.:good
It does make sense that Lopez couldn't fight Gonzalez, but I do think a match up between him and Carbajal would have at least helped his credentials a lot. I think Lopez would have handled him easily.
I do seem to remember how Mark Johnson was seen as the high risk, low reward fighter who was seemingly ducked by the big names such as Tapia, Carbajal, Gonzalez, and even Lopez. Not sure if this is entirely true.
I think the main difference between Lopez and GGG is that Lopez at least established himself as a legitimate champion by facing a tough challenger in Rosendo Alvarez, who really pushed him to the limits but eventually pulled off the win as a warrior. We have yet to see GGG involved in a fight against someone who could really trouble him stylistically.

Lopez was big for a strawweight and he had the body frame to move up to Flyweight in my opinion. Would have loved to see him test himself further.

    Well said !

Yes sir, it makes perfect sense to base your assessment of a fighter on the comments and exaggerated claims of some of his fanboys, especially if the same fanboys would happen to slight L'il Floyd !

After all, isn't Money the measure of all things ?
( The boxer, that is. Not the filthy green stuff)

If a boxer's fans insult the little fella, how good can that boxer be ?

Does it make any sense to consider the offensive and defensive fundamentals of the man, his ring generalship, footwork, chin and power, when his fanboys have said things that might bring Floyd to tears ?

    No sir !

A boxer, any boxer, should always be judged on what his fans say about Floyd.

If a boxer's fanboys and such would just keep their mouths shut about Li'l Floyd...then that boxer would get his due....and hed be fine.

Good to see we have at least one expert on here who knows how to assess boxing talent.

It might have been 4 rounds to zip, its been so long, but I do know Judah won the first 4 to 5 rounds in that fight and it had me surprised as I thought Mayweather was going to dismantle Judah from the get go and I was wrong.
Ultimately on my card Mayweather eeked out a decision.

Don't give me this **** about beating Broner. Broner is **** that should be flushed down the toilet. Broner is nothing, a fighter who's won championships fighting C level fighters.

The fans chose Khan for Mayweather to fight and Mayweather gave everyone the middle finger and fought Maidana. Twice to boot as he wanted zero part of Khan.
Then for his last fight he goes with the deserving Andre Berto who went into the Mayweather fight having lost 3 of 6 fights.
Losing to Ortiz, Guerrero, and Karass. Only winning vs Zavek, Chambers and the legendary Josesito Lopez.
    Stuff of legends!

It would have been a notch on Finito's cap to have Carbajal on his resume no doubt, but after Chiquita decisioned him twice, it kind of took the luster off of the matchup somewhat and promoters weren't willing to offer anything close to the million dollar payday that both Chiquita and Carbajal made for their fights.

The little guys in those days were used to garnish the main event fighters like Tyson and Chavez.

I have great respect for Michael Carbajal. "Manitas de Piedra." A ****ing warrior. But believe me, I've been watching boxing for well over 30 years, since Duran vs Leonard actually. Finito was a cut above both Chiquita and Carbajal. Just a complete fighter. Fluid in his movements and so precise in his punching.
Finito was a smaller version of Marquez, only more fluid in his overall ability.
Though Marquez has accomplished more, I have a ****ing time rating Marquez above Finito.
If you lived his era and saw most of his fight, you cant possibly not appreciate his greatness.

Ricardo Finito Lopez KO8 Michael Carbajal.
Because Carbajal was a warrior of the highest order, he couldn't possibly have lasted the distance against Ricardo Lopez, and I'm confident about that.

To bad for us that promoters looked upon the great little guys as nothing more than fighters to fill the undercards for the bigger guys.
    Damn shame!!!

and a note of interest to add, Finito destroyed Saman Sorjaturang, who then went on to defeat Chiquita Gonzalez and embarked on a 4 year reign at light flyweight.:deal

I grew up watching the sport during the 90s era of big names such as Tyson, de la Hoya, Trinidad, Jones Jr., Morales, Gatti, Hamed, etc. where guys like Lopez was always in their shadows. Sadly I've only discovered the great Finito 8 years ago! How I wished I could have watched him back then when he was usually on the undercards for Tyson and Chavez. The bigger fighters were all the rage back then while nobody gave a damn about the smaller guys. Finito was no doubt a fine fighter and a more refined version of JMM, even if he wasn't as battle tested.
For all his skills and beautiful technique and seemingly flawless style, the only real shame for Lopez was his weight class, no doubt a joke that God played on him.

Yep, knocked him out in two. Two years later Saman knocked out and retired Chiquita.
Thanks for pointing that out my friend! :good
