MANILA, Philippines – The adviser of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao believes American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. is merely making excuses when he laid down “conditions” for a potential mega-fight with the “Pacman.”

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz responded to Mayweather’s insistence that he will only fight Pacquiao if the Filipino leaves Top Rank Promotions and signs with his own Mayweather Promotions.

“He’s got to give me the fights with Mayweather Promotions. If he don’t give me no fights under Mayweather Promotions, then he’s not getting the fight,” Mayweather said in a Yahoo! Sports interview.

“It’s nothing but another excuse,” Koncz told Boxing Scene’s Rick Reeno.

“The facts are very simple,” he added. “I put Manny and Floyd on the phone together. Yes, Floyd offered $40 million and offered to send him $20 million. Yes, Manny told him I want 50-50 on the revenue split, and Manny said ‘I’m going to send Michael down there to see if we can work this out.’”

Koncz was able to meet with Mayweather in the American’s gym in Las Vegas, but in the Yahoo! Sports interview, the boxer called Koncz a “little weasel” and claimed that he didn’t know who Pacquiao’s adviser was.

“I’m not going to belittle myself to their level and do name-calling,” Koncz said in response. “It’s a childish forum and I have no intention of doing that.”

Koncz also noted that it was “interesting” that Mayweather wants Pacquiao to join his company when, last year, they attempted to create a promotional company with the two boxers.

“A year ago we were talking about forming a promotional company with many and Floyd. Because with the two super-power names in the boxing industry and in the pay-per-view industry – it would have been a very powerful company,” Koncz said.

“And that’s why I kind of find it interesting that he says we have to sign with his promotional company when we tried to do a joint venture,” he added.

Koncz told Boxing Scene that the discussions of forming a promotional company happened through rapper/promoter Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, but the negotiations fell apart after Mayweather had a falling out with the rapper.

But Koncz also stressed that a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather remains possible.

“If two fighters really want to fight each other, you can work out any obstacle that’s reasonable,” he said.
