Wow!!! Those are wayyyyyy worse than I could've even imagined!! Been watching this sport for close to 40 years and those are just gross on an ALL TIME level......
It's easier to hide from law when you are hiding in a drug cartel HQ in Panama or civil war-torn Venezuela, right Mendoza?
It's sad that the oldest sanctioning body is reduced to this. Then there's the latest witless utterings of the guy who holds the second oldest body in his grasp. Sometimes boxing is a hard sport to love.
The WBA used to be the premier organization with the General assembly having way more power than the president, who served more as a chairman. Every few years, the WBA General assembly would choose different president at the WBA annual convention. Until mid 1980s, no person served as the president for longer than 3-4 years (or 3 consecutive annual mandates). And then, the Mendoza clan infiltrated themselves in the key positions of the WBA, established the network of clients inside the Assembly and has been usurping the WBA ever since. First it was Gilberto Mendoza Sr from 1982 to 2015, and then his reptilian son to this day. They have been running the WBA as a family cartel (WBC style) and essentially downgraded the most prestigious boxing organization to the laughing stock level, borderline-money laundering organization which breaks its own rules on monthly basis, fixes its ratings for money and creates new pointless belts whenever they strike a private, illegal deal with some of the promoters/managers/advisers. Sad.
The only way their rankings could be worse is if they gave Gary Cornish mandatory status - and I generally wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen. We Be Awful.
They're all as bad as each other. The WBA rankings are laughable.....But at least they stick to implementing the 1 v 2 for Mandatory position. (Obviously 1 v 3 here, as Povetkin was already mandated before Bryan went to 1). The WBC ranking are more accurate, barring having Bellew top 5 who has 2 fights against a low ranked opponent at HW.....But then issue nonsense like 5 v 16 for mandatory status (Or whatever Big Dom v Molina was). I've always accused the WBC of showing US bias..... But that WBA list is even worse on that front. The WBA have poor rankings..... The WBC can't even stick to mandatory rules.....
The NBA was formed as a response to the NYSAC. The IBU and NSC are even older than NYSAC. NBA changes their name the WBA and the IBU, NSC, and NYSAC merge into the WBC. The WBA is oldest in name alone. All of the sanctioning bodies that predate the WBA are the WBC today.
Which mandatory will be called first? Trevor Bryan for WBA or the winner of Pulev & Hughie for the IBF?
When's the last time you took a real look at the WBO? They have the worst of both worlds. Bad ranks and bad mandos. The IBF gave us Glaz vs Martin for a title fight....that says all any can say about the IBF.
