For now, let us talk about Yuri Gamboa, the sensational talent from Cuba. He just defended his WBA title against a good challenge in Barros, and he has been undefeated so far, with 18 wins, with 15 KOs. How do you see his career panning out? Will he be another Pacquaio/Mayweather, a rare great talent? An ATG in the making? Think of Barrera, Morales, Dela Hoya. How about seeing him as a solid champ in the mold of Cotto or Castillo? Or he will be just a gatekeeper-level of talent? Your thoughts and votes.
At this point anything can happen. Gamboa is very talented and dedicated. But at his age and with his body type I dont think he will stay at 126lbs much longer. So, it will be very interesting to see how he looks against a top level 130lbs.
If he beats JuanMa, Caballero and other light level opp I'll rank him at ATG level. But I don't think he'll become a top tier ATG. But fighting these nobodies isin't doing him any favors.
He's way way too cocky in the ring. He's not Roy Jones, so he can't get away with that ****. Barros had him on ***** street from a stupid error by Gamboa.
ATG? I don't even rank Juanma or Caballero that high. Well may be if you are talking about top 50 ATG at that weight. But not top 10, way too soon
i'm having a hard time choosing a poll option since anything can happen in this game. but he has the talent to be something very very special. it wouldnt surprise me to see him at ww one day. so i guess it depends on how he develops and how he fights w/ the inevitable size that he is going to put on. but he for sure has the tools to do great things. i think he will beat juanma and thereafter be commanding some bigtime fights (not that that isnt a bigtime fight). once he reaches this stage, he will have an opportunity to be something great. whether it will happen...who knows. but his tools will provide him the opportunity which not a lot of fighters can say.
Many nuthuggers here let him fight at least a top ten contender in that weight first. He is just prospect with a paper belt.
He won't stay unbeaten if he regularly takes on the best around. His chin isn't all that solid but I do expect him to get a few quality wins before he hangs up his gloves. Not unlike Khan in that he has the skills and the speed but he is still vulnerable against big punchers.
