Floyd has recieved a lot of criticism over the years, some unwarranted and some he rightfully deserved. The most popular criticism has been that he has constantly ducked the top competition. This seems to be a consensus view, but I will play devil's advocate and defend Floyd on this very issue. Though their is absolutely no question that his opposition and display of talent from 130-135 was superb, his reign at the upper weight class is what's in question. So, lets take a look at the fights he WANTED and the fights he didn't take that are questionable.

Floyd WANTED Hamed at a catchweight: Merchant (Floyds biggest critic) even said Hamed would be afraid to take the fight, we've all seen the footage.

Floyd WANTED Frietas at 130: Frietas denied the fight claiming he was moving up to 135 after Casa, though he lied and continued to campaign at 130.

Floyd WANTED Tszyu at 140: Unfortunately, Zoo was on his last legs and was inactive, lost to Hatton and retired.

Floyd WANTED Hatton at 140: Hatton's father (manager) said their was no way he would put his son in the same ring as Floyd at that time.

Floyd WANTED Cotto at 140: Arum refused saying Cotto was too inexperienced.

Floyd WANTED Mosley at 147 & 135: Mosley claimed he needed his tooth fixed and deserved a vacation. At the lower weights he demanded 7 figures close to 10 mil, which frankly = blatant duck.

Floyd WANTED Winky Wright at 154: Winky turned down 3-5 mil because Floyd would recieve more.

Now I know Floyd has his own way of turning down fights over the years (Part 2 of this thread), but think about this for a second. Had Floyd fought and beat all of these guys, their is absolutely no question he is a Top 10-20 ATG fighter. By not making these fights his legacy will no doubt be affected. But, their is still time.

    To Be Continued....

I'm already prepared for the typical responses, even though my second thread will be hailed as the holy grail.

hate to let you in on this one smitty but PBf has been said and quoted as saying.

He would never fight Tszyu until he was Roger's age and older like when Tszyu beat a past prime Roger. But what makes this funny is when he was quoted as saying this in a press release Kostya was already the same age as Roger was 34.

So this means PBF was not interested in Tszyu and never wanted him. To say otherwise is plain stupid. Everyone knows this.

Mosley jumped 2 divisions to chase the biggest name in boxing...Oscar. Floyd couldn't fill a high school gym back then.

Mosleys vacation was planned in stone BEFORE the Vargas rematch... Floyd called him out knowing full well that Shane wasn't fighting 3 times that year. Not to mention the whispers of Oscar wanting Floyd first.

Floyd asking for 20 mill in Feb = blantant duck:hey

So basically its the chickens coming home to roost for SHane. He dismissed Floyd back in the day, now Floyd dismisses him.
