lol he is the most complete fighter. someone said he lost to the best fighters he faced but people forget he was fighting for about 20 years before he even fought leonard, hagler or hearns haha and only one of those 3 were able to knock him out in a weight class he was far beyond and he beat a prime leonard when he was older also.

some of you forget that duran was a beast before leonard thought about boxing, before hagler did, before hearns did and before benitez did. all these guys were looking up to him and he came up from lightweight to fight them. that alone makes him the best of all time.

    period.

my biggest issue is that the only figher he lost to in his prime was dejesus whom he went on to beat twice convincingly ala pacquiao beating morales twice after losing.

    DIFFERENCE

duran was already a guy fighting since '59 when he fought leonard in '81 lol some of you guys rate someone like GANS who none of you have truly seen, me either, above him... come on.

duran is the greatest complete fighter period. he fought in 5 decades. competively. whether against top fighters or not. he beat iran barkley almost 30 or 40 years after his prime! the same guy who beat Hearns. come onnnnn dont look at skill or h2h remember the age and the fact that he had already established himself about 16 or 17 years before leaonrd fought in the olympics.

in losing against the very best hagler the way he did , he proved what an brilliant fighter he was. hagler was made to look foolish at times. only duran could do that

Yeah, but Hagler didn't fight his fight. He was far too cautious and showed Duran too much respect. It was the only title defense in which he didn't win via KO/TKO but they had nothin to do with Duran. Just like SRL losing the Brawl in Montreal. It never has anything to do with Duran and is 100% dependent on the other fighter.

    :rofl

He wasn't in his prime when De Jesus beat him in 1972. He was only 22 at the time and it was just after he won the title. Duran clearly wasn't at his peak as a fighter until the late 70's.

Why do you include Duran fighting since he was 8 years old. You're the only person I've ever seen mention a fighters career span, which includes even before he was an amateur. You're probably best being sensible and starting with 1967, when he turned pro.

You say that Duran was fighting since 59, then go onto say he fought in 5 decades. That would be 6 decades if you stupidly include the 50's. You're best saying 5 decades, which includes 1967 when he turned pro. More sensible. We all know many fighters take up the sport when their age is in single digits.

At least, Hearns didn't have any of that "too much respect for Duran" issues, per sure!

My man, Tommy, gave Duran the same respect he would have given to a punching sack :bbb

Anyone would think Duran was 200 years old.

He was fighting 12 years before he fought Leonard, 16 by Hearns. Tho extremely remarkable this is sure not 20.

Leonard started boxing the year after Duran turned pro. He possibly thought about it before Duran was even pro. Benitez actually turned pro just 5 years after Duran at just 15. It's safe to say he was around boxing a fair bit prior to this. I'm not sure all of them were looking up to him and i'm very sure it doesn't make him the best of all time.

Duran had been fighting pro since 1968, you're about a decade out. He was about 8 in 1959. He was probably fighting other kids, but there are also rumours SRL first started shadow boxing in the womb and that Hagler had a boxing glove in his head at birth.

Duran beat Barkley in 1989 (great achievement indeed), 21 years after his pro debut. 30 years before the fight he was 7, 40 years prior not even born.

16 or 17 years before SRL fought in the Olympics Duran was 7 or 8. It's possible, perhaps even probable he'd established himself with other children in the playground or hood but it's not the established i picture.

Um, Duran was already the most feared and respected of street fighters in the whole Guarare area by the age of 4 and a half. Its well known he had over 14,000 fights by then, including 23 knockouts of the dreaded Hector "Im in 5th grade" Jimenez-Santiago-Manuelo.

Jeez, learn a bit of history, man

Duran was the best complete dominant fighter I have seen in my ERAs ,SRL had a shorter career but was also complete but Duran was something special and you could sense the animal instinct and meanness he was like a more fluid version of Jack Dempsey at 135lbs

Some credit has to goto Duran here, who was legitimately stopped once thru his first 113 career fights or so. He shook off a few Leonard stingers despite slipping the majority and just wouldn't be backed up. Duran came in with a massive chip on his shoulder and had full blown adrenaline dripping out of his pours. He looked ready to go another 15 after the final bell.
