which is my point always. He was great, but regardless of the excuse he had that he was out of shape or above his natural weight he lost the best 5 guys he ever fought.
All those guys Hearns,Leonard and Benitez moved up from original weights.

exactly, it would say that Duran wanted to win and was motivated to beat Moore and Barkley but not Leonard, Benitez and Hearns. Which cannot be the truth.

Duran was a great, great lightweight, but he was fortunate that he never had to contend with a prime Carlos Ortiz.

He fought the best fighters he ever fought 12-25lbs above his natural fighting weight and years after his prime. I know what would happen to SRL or Hearns in their 30s if they faced a 160-175lbs version of a prime Duran!!

you cannot really believe a fighter at 175 can be as active as a lower weight fighter. I was just stating facts as others did. The best guys Duran fought were Hearns,Leonard,Benitez,Hagler and he did lose to them all.

I can easily believe that it's conceivable to have a Duran-calibre fighter at 168 or 175, someone that good. Pop SRL or Tommy in the ring with a guy as good as Duran who was a smw, and they get stomped. Simple as that. Put a past-prime SRL and/or Hearns in with peak smw/lmw RJJ, and they get pounded. Not difficult logic to follow.

put Whitaker in the ring with lightweight Duran and he wins. I was not talking caliber as much as activity. I was just saying I think it would be very difficult for a guy 175 pounds to be as active as a guy 135 or 140.

Which had nothing to do with my point.

Point was: Duran fought the best fighters he ever fought 12-25lbs above his natural weight. Put SRL and/or Hearns in the same situation, and they do not fare better than Duran did.

It is hard to logically say put Hearns and Leonard in the ring with a lightweight Duran, however another legend similar to the skill level of Hearns and Leonard and Benitez is Pernell Whitaker, and I always said he would beat Duran.

He didnt have speed. although he was the best lightweight/superlightweight ever. when he moved up he lost most of his brilliant features such as chin, speed and power.

I've always said he wouldn't, and I think Pea was the most complete fighter in history.

To beat the best Duran at lightweight, you'd need some serious power to keep him honest. Pea didn't have the artillery for the job IMO. He'd get swarmed, outpunched, outfought, and outpointed.

It'd probably be the best fight ever fought though.

His chin looked absolutely rock-solid against Barkley at middleweight.

I always thought Whitaker had more power than it looked. His body punches was great, and he slowed Chavez down with it. And he did knockout Nazario( I think that was his name) with one punch. I don't think he was a knockout puncher, but I think he had power to keep guys respectful so he could be defensive yet win rounds.

    Not Duran though.
