Hard to argue this at all, the only question ready is where they belong. But make no mistake they are both very very elite fighters, and the fact they are mentioned in hypothetical matchups between themselves and Duran, Pryor, JCC, Whitaker, etc says it all. I personally think they are both in the top 30 all time and an argument can be made that they are higher than that. Certainly the winner of this upcoming fight will get a boost in the rankings.

Both are ATGs. I think Pac ranks higher.

Pac has the chance of increasing the distance.

Or Floyd can become greater than Pac if he wins.

Coming up from minimum weight to beat legitimate welterweights says a lot. Marquez beat Pac doesn't mean he's ranked higher on the list. In terms of comp I do believe Pac's a bit harder as he had all the physical disadvantages fighting bigger guys. If it's a split or contraversial decision then I probably wouldn't rank Mayweather higher.

Mayweather can say what he likes. Leonard, Robinson, Duran, Ali, Hagler, Hearns - all these fighters are better than Mayweather. Floyd is a modern day Pernell Whitaker, no more, no less. He's remained undefeated by having a very strategic career all based around making money and protecting his '0'. Pac's legacy will be about on the same rung of ATG-ness. Win or lose I don't think it will change how either fighter is judged by boxing historians because they will both have excuses - Mayweather too old and Pac too small. Ironically, I think a dominant display by either fighter will do less to add to their legacy than will a close fight.

Good post and couldn't agree more. A lot of passionate fans with pent up frustration has caused a LOT of unfair criticism over these years.

Fact is......you are 1000% correct. FLOYD and MANNY are ATG's......living legends in this sport and are proven. Their ring accomplishments are up there with all the greats and what they'll leave behind are two incredible legacies.

Win, lose or draw........both fighters are deserving of the recognition of winning a fight of this magnitude. It would be a shame to see the winner get the most significant win of his career ****yzed by an electron-microscope to rationalize why he got the win.

As long as both men come to put on an EPIC performance I don't care who wins! Now.....I do want Manny to upset Floyd but I'm leaning towards Floyd......But if we got another ALI vs FRAZIER or Leonard vs Duran.......I won't care one bit who got their hand raised at the end of the fight because the sport of boxing would have ultimately won by blessing the world with another CLASSIC match up.

Good post, buck. Both are ATGs. This fight just settles the question of who is better H2H. It's the dream fight of our era involving 2 talents on the short list of the most gifted fighters/athletes of all time. And the eyes of the whole world will be watching. I'm excited to be able witness it.

    chronic cherrypickers cant be ATGs

or if they are, they'd be pretty low on the ATG list

Pac should be above Floyd in the list, way above
