Not many people that bought Hatton vs Floyd knew who Floyd was - that is a fact. It was built around the P4P thing, and that Hatton had KO'd a guy Floyd barely put a dent in over 24 rounds - it obviously didn't fool the boxing fans, but the casual sports fans who 'will watch it if someone decent is on' type were, and stumped up. Pac might be slightly better known than Floyd, because he beat DLH and Barrera - who is popular in the UK for obvious reasons.
Hatton should accept no less then 50/50....better still, make a counter offer of 60/40 in his favour. See how Pacquiao's negotiators like that.
thing is boxing isnt a sport you generally hear about on tv or even in the newspapers these days, pacquaio beating De La Hoya never really heard anything about it, but Calzaghe beating Jones & Hatton beating Malignaggi even though they were routine were covered pretty well. Basically what I'm saying is people hear and know only British fighters so they will watch their fights, doesnt really matter who theyre fighting and to some its just a great excuse to have a **** up with the lads till 5 in the morning so somebody like Hatton will always do decent numbers over here.
I still find it unfathomable that the average fan in the UK is willing to shell out PPV money for a fight where they don't even know who the opponent is. Maybe its true. That sort of explains a lot of the posts from the UK.
lol its true, they will follow ricky blindly off a mountain if he went there, about 80% of his fan base are regular pub dwellers or football hooligans. It doesnt matter who he fights becuause........... THERE IS ONLY ONE RICKY HATTON! LMAO!
60/40 pac but really i could give 2 sh*ts who gets the bigger portion for neither of them are gonna pay for my ticket & traveling expenses. i just hope the fight sticks.
i agree, 50-50 is what the cut should be. Hatton will bring in the bigger revenue anyway and pac deserves half of the earnings because he is the pound for pound champ. pac and his unreasonable hanger-ons should stop asking for more than 50% share. anyways, there's still the possibility that the fight is already signed and sealed and all this tiff is just to promote the fight so the fans will have something to talk about. remeMber pac-DLh?
And of course the average US sports fan knew who Calzaghe was before he took on Lacy, no Hopkins?, or who Hatton was until he fought Gayweather? or any other "euro bum" until they roll up in the states to take on one of their headline fighters. In the US boxing doesn't exist outside of HBO or Showtime. Works both ways.
The more money goes to Manny the more he can help the unfortunate people, don't you guys look at it that way. And stupid people are calling him greedy.
