It is a double-standard, though. Regardless of what public perception was or is, the reality is that Mosley couldn't have dropped of the wagon that much in 7 months. He looked absolutely awful in the Mayorga fight and by rights was just lucky he ended it with one second left, else I and many others had him losing that fight. The fact of the matter is that, despite all the accolades Shane picked up after beating Margo, they were undeserved. Just remember that the guy Shane got all the praise for beating, and elevated him back into the P4P picture, was the guy the Pacquiao fought in his last fight. You can't have it both ways.

Had Pac taken the fight against Mosley at 143, people would have burned him in effigee after he won. Fighting Mosley before we saw Shane's real age against a moving target would have been credible only at 147, maybe one pound below that max.

This is the price emmanuel pays for fighting guys who were beaten first by Floyd but more importantly didn't look so good in their most recent fight.

As others have said earlier...Floyd fought Shane when he was ranked highly, and perceived to be a great threat. Pac is fighting him AFTER Floyd has already dominated him, and he showed further signs of decline, against Mora. The public perception of Mosely, currently, is that he is nearly shot (whether that is true or not is a matter of opinion). Pac deserves the criticism he is receiving for this selection, considering that he has two, more favorably viewed, matchups to choose from. Not to mention, they did not want to give Shane an opportunity when he looked beastly against Margarito. But, after he looks like ****, he's the top prospect. Go figure. If they really cared about what the fans thought, they would take JMM or Berto and let the Shane fight simmer, until he at least makes a good showing in 1 or 2 fights.

Very different circumstances. When Shane was slated to fight Floyd, here is what the landscape looked like:

-Shane was coming off a huge KO win over a version of Margarito who everyone thought was unbeatable
-Shane was the best challenge for Floyd at the time. Negotiation with Pac failed. Berto was in Haiti. PWill was already scheduled to fight Cintron
-Shane was a top pound for pound fighter
-The consensus belief was that Mayweather had never fought a true welterweight with the kind of speed and punching power Mosley possessed

    Modern day version of Shane:

-Hasn't won a single match in 2 years
-Dominated by Floyd, looked way past his prime against Mora
    -Displayed awful stamina
    -Not a top P4P fighter
-Doesn't deserve another mega fight so soon
-Not nearly considered as dangerous as he was 7 or 8 months ago

It's not so much Shane's age that is the problem. It's the fact that Pac is skipping the 2nd best challenger (in terms of skill, not money) to fight 3rd or 4th best.

It doesn't work. Somehow it's totally different. You just know Pac is gonna bash the **** outta him in better fashion.

Considering Floyd dominated Mosley 11-1 in that fight, what the **** is the point of Pacquiao fighting him? And after Mosley has gone on to draw with Sergio Mora? Fight Berto, Fight Paul Williams, Fight Sergio Martinez, Fight Marquez for a 3rd time.

The win is magnified because so many people talked **** on how Mayweather was scared of Mosley and would never fight Mosley. People lost life time bans over it. You can't talk mad **** about how Mayweather would never ever ever fight Mosley and how he is scared of a big legit WW. Then sweep it under the rug once he dominates the guy.

The impressive part of the fight for Mayweather though was the fact that he stood toe to toe and went right after Shane rather then getting on his bike vs Shane. If he would have gotten on his bike to a easy UD then it would have been expected. But nobody expected Mayweather to run up in Mosley's grill the way he did.

Floyd didn't get any credit for the Mosley fight stop with your lies, most people around said Mosley got old, had a long layoff and just gassed out in the 3rd round.
