Let's get to the bottom of this: is it right that Dawson is not fighting Diaconu?

Diaconu had his chance... but he blew it? :D

Either or, Dawson vs Johnson OR Diaconu is not bad for boxing.

Dawson vs Tarver? Maybe so, although he would rid Tarver from the boxing world, so maybe that's the fight I want the most!

Yeah, Diaconu blew it and there could have been no one more disappointed than him...:yep ...great shame for everyone concerned...and in a way I can see why Dawson is getting impatient to move on...I just wonder whether this is the best way for him to do it, medium-long term...

Oh, by the way, when I say "ducking", I don't mean " running scared"...I mean avoiding, for whatever reason, good or bad...

what happens when dawson beats the hell out of his mandatories and cant get the other names to fight him? he then becomes what many have referred to roy as a fake because he only fought mandatories. so what if he wants to earn a little more cash he should. he already tried to fight the guy and he was unable to because of an injury. so he now has to out big paydays on hold for him once again i say no to that. he should fight johnson if that is going to get him paid. he can take the belt from any light heavy fighting and when he has time in his schedule he can take the belt back from diacanou who will have to fight in bout with someone to earn the title still.

Yeah, fair enough...I guess he should consider himself lucky because someone like Adamek made him...that fool, Adamek, he should have tried to get it on with Tarver and Johnson too - and screw the smallfry contenders waiting on the sidelines for their day in the sun!

These days it seems it's what is the best fight for the best amount of fan interest and money for the fighters.Surely your not suggesting that a Diacanu fight would be more interesting and fan friendly than Dawson taking on Tarver or Johnson?Or maybe you are.In that case you are wrong.:good

As a boxing fan I would rather see Dawson against Diaconu, limited as he is, but hungry and live, in his prime and dangerous, than against shot Tarver, legendary as he undoubtedly is...I know there are quite a few boxing fans who want the same...but clearly, not everyone does...

Have nothing against Johnson at all; I am sure he is not as far gone as Tarver and I am sure he would provide Dawson with more of a fight than Dawson, but personally I am not excited...Johnson is going to be past 39 in April...and but a pale shadow of his former self...but hey, in the US, this is what the fans want!:think

Decebel, if you're going to quote me extensively in your first post, maybe you should list me as a reference?

It's already been explained to you. Dawson is sick of waiting for a big fight, Showtime damn sure is sick of it, and they want to make it happen as soon as possible. That is April on the Showtime calendar.

At that time, they can match Chad against a totally no-name mandatory in Diaconu -- Chad's third consecutive no-name opponent -- or they can put him in against an established, well-known, still-viable foe such as Johnson. Showtime will put their money behind Johnson in a way that they won't with Diaconu, and from Dawson's perspective, how could you possibly suggest he turn down the better money? That's just stupid.

If Chad drops the belt, he can get it back later. Who gives a **** about the belts anyway. What belt has Manny Pacquiao been defending lately? Hurt his stardom any?

Maybe Diaconu can win the vacant belt and either unify with Woods or perhaps lure Tarver into a bout. If he's as dangerous as some of his zealot fans believe, he and Chad will have plenty of time to arrange a meeting.

Long gone are the days when the belt makes the fighter. TV calls the shots, not the belts. If you must blame someone, Decebel, blame Showtime.

Are you sure thats a credible source? I doubt Dawson will drop his belt come April 25. Dawson needs to mount a voluntary defense before January 25, that's official. I don't know about him needing to fight Diaconu before April 25, because that's not said on any boxing site. And who is Adrian Diaconu fighting next? I'm pretty sure he's tired of waiting around, and so is Dawson trying to get a fight with a top opponent. I really hope the WBC changes the date of the boubt to January instead of April because that would seem like the logical choice, but I bet Showtime wants it on same card with Tarver to market him and Dawson as a potential match up, which I find ridicioulous because boxing isn't popular as it used to be. I don't really see the point of Dawson wanting to fight Johnson in April, it doesn't make sense, especially since Dawson will be 7 months off. Oh well we'll just wait see and what happens in the next month or so.
