Hes got a BEAST resume, all because (for 1 his heart obviously) realistically, Showtime's tournament gave a mechanism for fighters who committed to the tournament to fight the MAJORITY of the top contenders at 168lbs. People need to realize this, I've heard time and time again on ESB, irrational posters, saying that the Super6 was a "failure". This could not be FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.

The Super6 made a **** load of fights happen, which wouldn't have otherwise happened had it all been left up to individual promoters getting off their ass and make relevant fights happened. The Super6 lit a fire up these promoters ass to get up and get some work done to make fights happen.

This is what boxing needs, another example is look at Abner Mares. This guy's resume is decent already, he was thrown in a tournament and hes already respected as a "top guy to beat" in and around his division. These things won't happen these days in boxing if we leave it in the hands of promoters, because what we WILL get are promoters putting on in-stable cards with their fighters fighting tomato cans in noncompetitive fights.

There are several divisions in boxing that would greatly benefit from a tournament, whether it is a round robin, or a single fight knock-off bracket tournament, it will lead to a clearer understanding as to whos the MAN.

Case in point - Carl ****ing Froch - a bad ass man who most likely, wouldn't be AS RESPECTED as he is today, had it not been for the tournament. Why? Because he is an unorthodox fighter with a grimy style that isn't appreciated by most, and when fights were discussed involving Froch, we didn't really think he'd win in certain fights based off style.

But the Super6 allowed him to prove that he has intangibles to beat dudes regardless of style. Please, boxing needs more of these tournaments. Ward in my humble opinion is #3 pound for pound behind Mayweather and Manny - this is besides the point however, because what does matter is that Ward may have never been ranked this high lb for lb without the Super6 happening.

    PROPS TO SHOWTIME BOXING

Too long to read. But I agree, major props to Showtime for their Super Six and providing the platform for Ward to become what he is now. They've also done wonders for the likes of Froch, too. The same could have been said for Dirrell if he had his act together.

    good thread
but dont expect these tourneys to happen too often

the reason this one did is because calzaghe retired, so it left everyone else sitting around with paper belts and one big carrot

Showtime continues to show why they are the best at bringing the future to the front.
All of HBO's card last night were born & bred thru SHOBOx & eventually SHO boxing.

HBO simply doing their best poaching job.
Super Six best idea's in boxing in a looooooong time.

I totally agree, the super 6 was the best thing happening to boxing for years, the concept was brilliant and simple: the best has to fight the best
in the end it was beneficial for the fans, the fighters, the network, I really hope they make another super 6 in a different weight class

Why is it that we have to say something completely ****ing ******ed to have any type of thread start up in conversation....?

Andre Ward is less talented than Carlos Baldomir.
