I was happy enough with Chag's effort, he convinced me he tried his best. He didn't just lean away and play defence like Ibragimov. He did try to use some head movement, get inside, he tried to throw punches when he was anywhere near range. It was pretty obvious he wasn't comfortable doing it though, because its not his game. And well...he isn't good enough either. I don't have any issue he called it a day in there. He was getting beat up, he had no chance, he showed a good chin, and it was probably a decision the corner + ref made as much as him.
Even after various degrees of nasty scares in Ricky Quiles, Victor Burgos, Leavander Johnson, Benjamin Flores, Pedro Alcazar, Lito Sisnorio, Oscar Diaz, Cho Hi, Samora Msophi, Yo-Sam Choi, and Ruben Contreras just in the last several years (more than half of those died as a direct result of damage sustained in the ring - the rest were at least temporarily comatose and shoe-ins for eventual dementia) - you still get the machismo-junkie meatheads blubbering about how everybody should "go out on their shield". Those people are the real pussies. Those are the ones I'd like to tee off on with 8oz reyes.
I would like to be part of this thread. Chag is a champion,a nd he tried. He was flat out outclassed by a more physically gifted man.
He took alot of punishment--just like Brewster, but he didn't quit on his stool-- he was ready to hang in there-didn't the ref stop the fight? Both he and the great Lamon Brewster felt Wlad's wrath.. Ruslan is one tough *******.
If chagaev had rush Wlad like he did at the end of round 5 ..i think it was?! He would have given Wlad a good fight/had a real chance! But he was bobbing and weaving sideways leaving himself a sitting duck to Wlads tenticle left hand...he should have tried to weave inside and get to the body/rush him! Easier said than done mind you when the guy is 6'6 with arms like stretch armstrong!!
Lamon Brewster was the real quiter- and I don't like saying this about Lamon but you haters deserve it- at least Ruslan landed a good shot.
Some of you need to toughen up. This is Boxing, a blood sport, not a game of ****in ping pong. ANyone who gets inside that ring knows what's at stake and if you're a prize fighter performing for hundreds and thousands of viewers, u better put on a good show or else give our ****ing money back, plain and simple. These guys are fighters and they're supposed to FIGHT.
Ruslan took a real beating like a man. Perhaps the keyboarders would have liked to have seen him killed.
Of course not, but we don't want boxers quitting just because thery are losing, at least go out swinging
I originally thought the doctor stopped it, but it was Chagaev and his corner that pulled the plug. I think it was mostly Chagaev who made the decision, cause he was all but out on his feet after that ninth round. He knew he'd be down within seconds of the tenth. Chag pulled the plug, from what I can discern.
