I haven’t seen anyone else say this, but imo Fury-Gassiev makes perfect sense after Makhumudov.

Gassiev gets a big payday, and Fury gets to call himself WBA (regular) champion.

It also then sets up the potential Usyk trilogy fight, with Fury having dispatched of Gassiev, a former Usyk opponent.

Ancient Pulev is by far Chisora's best win. It was still a Brit md decision, he got a gift.

You're assuming Fury wins both. They'd be a couple of his best wins, that is how carefully he has cherry picked his fights. No way on Earth does Fury deserve another fight with Usyk.

Does anybody even want Usyk in anymore rematches tbh ? Kabayel then Wardley should be immediate fights once the cross over fight for Usyk is out the way, should even Dubois beat Wardley nobody wants that fight again either. Fury was the only active Heavyweight belt holder to take a cross over fight and now Usyk is doing the same, meanwhile the Heavyweight Division is basically at a stand still !

Some idiot interviews Gassiev about Moses Itauma.

Seriously, the interview is about half over before he asks a non-Itauma question.

    Still a decent interview:

I watched that yesterday. I would love an Itauma vs Gassiev fight.

Obviously its low on the list of fights I'd like to see but I do wonder if Gassiev at heavyweight vs an older Usyk is a better fight the second time for Gassiev?

    Same schooling

Gassivev's back foot game is far too weak to beat such a fighter

I agree with the point you are making about Pulev as even at an advanced age Chisora needed a gift, but personally think Chisora's peak win was Takam. Still, it had been a few years since the Pulev v Chisora fight, he was only getting older

Me too. There were rumors Gadzhimagomedov was close to signing to fight La Cruz...maybe they can put both on the same card!

Ok, I have been waiting for the official verdict for congratulations, and it seems to have come:

    wba-ranking

The WBA have Gassiev listed as the sole and only WBA champ. He is now the fourth man after Holyfield, Usyk, and David Haye to win both a cruiser and heavyweight championship. Congratulations, Murat Gassiev, heavyweight champion of the world!

I kinda like this. Partly because it's a small buff to Usyk's record, partly because it subtly diminishes David Haye's.

Gassiev effectively became HW champ by beating a string of journeymen and 44 Pulev. Haye became HW champ after ducking Cunningham, beating Barrett and Valuev.

Gassiev and Haye are closer in HW success than either are to Holyfield or Usyk. Whereas prior to Usyk there was only Holyfield and Haye, which distorted the picture of Haye's career.
