already i see the merry band of triple quack superfans lining up to whine and complain about how unfair it is to fight for the mw title at a cw...they are lining up in droves

why dont you just pretend canelo is floyd? i mean....hes pretty close...hes the key to your "kingdom"....

its one fight....just one....you guys dont have to cut the weight....you dont have to get up early and run and just drink water...you dont have to diet and eat propery

its one fight and then all of your problems are solved and youll never have to worry about cw's again......and youll be on your way to supers****om and all that....and breaking floyds ppv records and taking his spot and all

but i still see you guys complaining ....it almost sounds like pre damage control......i mean ggg will be the favorite....he should beat canelo...id favor him .....yet you guys almost sound like you are trying to put up a pre fight excuse in the event of a loss....like the pac fans did before floyd...it seems eerily similar the way the triple quack fans are acting.....relax....you sould beat canelo....youll be ok....its one fight and you can do things your way.....

Shockingly, we're on the same page for once.

GGG's gotta make the concessions it takes to get the Alvarez fight.

You ask for a serious discussion and then make a post full of insults and completely unobjective.

    Anyway, i will humour you.

First of, i am a fan of both guys, but first and foremost, i am a fan of boxing. Therefore, i like to see what is best for the sport before what is best for any particular boxer.

The way i see it, and it is pretty simple if you just apply the most rudimentary of logical thought; boxing has many faults and because of this it is not as popular as it once was. The increasing regularity of catchweight fights is another problem to add to the long list of boxings ills. All championships should be defended at the mandated weight. Anyone in boxing not doing this and any fan encouraging anything that goes against this is bad for boxing as they are putting an individuals interests over what is best for the sport.

Great point, I also favor G even with a cw. And I asked G fans on the other thread if they think the cw makes a Canelo win favorable ..I wonder what they'll say. (or you could answer here)

    I'm split on this.

On the one hand CWs are dumb, especially within a division. Canelo is a MW, draining himself because he can get away with it since he's 25. They want to use this to drain Triple G. Plus Triple G gets the belt anyway if Canelo doesn't fight him next. Also who realistically is there for Canelo to fight that will draw huge a million dollar PPV buys besides Triple G. Mayweather won't come out to fight you, Pacquiao will be most likely be fighting Crawford in an in house PPV fight with Top Rank. You will lose fans if you try fighting small WWs like Khan and Bradley.

On the other hand, Triple G is B-side in this. This fight does wonders for him in that it will do many times the PPV buys that his fight with Lemieux did. He makes a ton of money with the chance to become the PPV king by beating Canelo which he would. No one will duck him since he'll be permanent A-side and everyone will want the money they'll get by fighting Triple G. So maybe Triple G should for one fight come down and fight Canelo.

Impossible to have a "serious discussion" when the ****ing idiot TS uses the term "Triple Quack" in the first sentence. Stopped reading his moronic post at that point as this clown never has anything reasonable to offer anyway.

ya...i totally hear you ...cw fights, which allow for two very popular or very good fighters to meet when the ordinarily wouldnt at all, is bad for the sport and one of its "ills"....lol

Incorrect, cw's have nothing to do with the popularity decline. This is proven without a doubt by Floyd Canelo (2.4 mil ppv buys I believe) Pac Cotto (1.5 mil ppv buys) etc. CW's have never shown to put a damper on viewership, and reason is obvious, as no one can be sure if the cw will actually have an effect on the fight. And casuals either don't know what they are or don't even understand the significance of their implementation.

He'll have to if he wants the fight. Canelo is the draw card and the pay day, he isn't going to just throw that away without an advantage. No promoter in their right mind would send Canelo up to 160 to face Golovkin. Canelo hasn't even fought at 160.

That is when catchweights are good. However, Canelo is MW champion and GGG is a MW. Both guys also enter the ring at a similar weight so they are the same size. Your "when they ordinarily wouldn't meet" line is not applicable here.

    You have two choices;

    1) Both guys fight at 160 for the MW title and both will be about 170-175 on fight night and at their absolute peak as GGG has fought at 160 for years so this is what he is comfortable with and Canelo won't have to drain himself to make 154.

    2) Fight for the MW title at a catchweight with weakened fighters.

For me, option one is clearly the best option as it doesn't tarnish the sport and we would have a better fight as both fighters will be fresher.

Shockmaster, can you be as objective as you possibly can and tell me why you seem to prefer option two?
