That isn't how it works. GGG is clearly THE MAN at mw , he could have all the belts in his pocket and not be lineal champ, or Ring Champ. Those are already spoken for. You can't take them away like the alphabet orgs do with their belts. They are just sanctioning bodies.

The lineal championship may have its flaws, but it is (generally) wholly reliant on the results in the ring. Unless a new lineage is established due to the previous hitting the end of the line, the lineal champ remains until he is dethroned. We csn't just reassign it because we are frustrated that one guy can't, or hasn't got the fight.

The Ring champsionship also has its flaws, but itis not beholden to the self-serving nature and politics of a sanctioning body. It has it's own politics, make no mistake, but it does not subject the fighters to sanctioning fees and self-serving rankings. Their rankings are acombination of all the fighters at a given weight class.

It's kind of odd, but I haven't seen any official lineal rules that confirm that. Wondering why

According to your rules, is Canelo now allowed to fight 4-rounders at 155lbs and defend his "lineal" title for the rest of his career? I'm just wondering.

Yep. Canelo could fight nothing but bums below 160 pounds for as long as he wants and still be considered lineal. That's why being lineal is overrated.

I think you have things backwards.
That Floyd was allowed to never facing a mandatory or ever even defending his belts was nothing short of a disgrace.
It's his money that made the WBC/WBA bend over.

Now they're finally doing the right thing and you want them to be corrupt again! :patsch

This is what I think too. Canelo's belt is another trinket to add to the display case, but not essential.

We all know who the #1 is.

Isn't that exactly what Bumlovkin is doing?

That's not true. Last night's fight was contested in the middleweight division.

Again, not true. The legitimate middleweight title was on the line last night.

And once again, this is not true. Canelo is the middleweight champion. Period, end of...

The WBC cannot strip the lineal title...

The best boxers don't want to fight him at 160 and he doesn't want to fight other (the best actually) boxers at 168 or probably 155.

Answering the question as to who is the middleweight champion,

    GGG !!!

Canelo has to meet GGG per the WBC after beating Cotto.

O$CAR quickly stepped in with this "catch weight" 154 lb. nonsense, etc, but the rule stands. Canelo's next fight must be with GGG or the WBC strips the tittle.

It will be months before this is resolved with O$CAR delaying, "Rematch Clause", and one excuse after another.

but... that is where it currently stands, unless the WBC weasles out.

100 years of boxing tradition affirms that Canelo is *the* middleweight champion.

    Lineal = THE!

This is what makes this so fun. GGG has all those “other” title, but Canelo has THE Title! The Real Title!

LOL @ all the folks thinking that the MW champion is anybody other than Golovkin. He's practically cleaned up the division :D
