I'd rate GGG #1 at MW just because of more fights, but Canelo is the true MW Champ and would beat GGG.

Out of all the Middleweight Titles, if you could only have one title at 160, which title would you want to have? Which title is seen as THE Middleweight Title?

All day GGG's over hyped, Alvarez wins in a competitive fight that looks similar to last night.

Great. Two middleweight champions in a row that refuse to fight at middleweight.

Forget the title. They fought at Light-middleweight. The 160 lineage is vacant. Cotto only ever had 1 fight at one pound over the JM limit, both times after his fought inside 154. If Cotto had fought Canelo at catchweight 150 would you call it Middleweight? Cotto and Canelo were the 1 and 2 at jnr-middle so Canelo is the lineal champ at junior-middleweight. It was only made at 155 to satisfy the WBC. Is it this ONE POUND that is causing the problem?

GGG holds 2/4 belts, he's the champion and the man.
All this lineal stuff is in your head/fiction.

There is no universal official anything in boxing, which is the genesis of this problem and many of the problems it faces.

Maybe, however, the fact remains - the Triple Duck has fought nothing but TOMATO CANs...

It's meaningless if its defended by old fogeys, lame ducks and cowards. Loses its value completely. :verysad

The #1 MW is GGG without question. If there's any integrity left in the sport we will see that when he takes Canelo's strap from him.

Yes, it's called 100 years of established boxing tradition. Nothing gets more "official" than that...

You can't just make it up as you go along. The fight was at MW. Cotto was the lineal MW champ, regardless of how we personally feel about it, or the circumstances. Everyone knows GGG is the big dog, the best fighter. It still doesn't change that.
You and I can consider him the FranD champ, but it does not make him lineal until he either wins it directly from the lineal champ, which is Canelo Alvarez, or it dies in Alvarez' pocket and a new lineage is established. It's really that simple.

Canelo beats Cotto at a 155 catchweight so he shouldn't even be recognised as a middleweight champion in my opinion.

If you do recognise him as middleweight champion then you have to agree he should fight at the middleweight limit of 160.

You can't have it both ways, you can't call him a middleweight champion and expect Golovkin to drop to 155, this digging out of Golovkin is getting ridiculous.

I don't care if you detest Golovkin, you haven't got to like anybody, support who you like but you should be at the very least be fair and stop being so hypocritical.

Canelo is linear even though he has never fought above 155 pounds.

GGG should be ranked on top in any middleweight rankings. They need to meet quickly.

I suspect Canelo will try to make GGG wait. I hope not.

The middleweight has had an older man as champion ( Martinez ), and a blown up lower weight fighter ( Cotto ) before Canelo.

The division has been highjacked so to speak and needs a clear #1 vs #2 to reestablish itself.

GGG vs Canelo Alverez is a rare super fight for a significant weight class.
