Flashy record, but not much substance. Went life and death with demarco. Good fighter but he would eventually lose badly.

Maybe, but De Marco got his ish pushed in. He looked like he was half dead sitting on the stool in between rounds 6-9 before the stoppage.

I was a big fan of Valeros but given what we know now his coke and booze addictions would have caught up with him in bigger fights

he had some bad habits in the ring (like mouth open when throwing ect) but the guy was an animal he would have been a handful for all the fighters currently at 140 if he kept his power going up in weight.

I think the only way they could have ever beat him was by KO no way they last 12 rounds with a guy who hit like that

Valero is sometimes extremely overrated but to say he isn't a notable question mark in his decade/era is selling him a little short.

I do think he would have gotten beaten, probably knocked out, among his next several "world class fights" if they were against top opposition. We didn't really get to see him fight enough quality to make me feel any other way.

Good footage of Valero sparring on youtube.
Much better actual boxer as opposed to a fighter than most people realise.
In fights he tended to forget skill and just go for the knock-out.
But true his lifestyle would have eventually caught up with him.
I for one would have loved to have seen him in a few big fights to see how good he really was.

Don't agree and there's nothing more which can be said... He's dead now. I wanna know who the mofo is who would have been KO'ing him.

At the trajectory he was on(had he not gone bat****), Marquez could have been the guy to ice him.

  9. What would you guys think of Valero vs Matthysse?

Correct. He was never going to beat Pacquiao, Guzman, or perhaps even Soto. The biggest h2h myth in recent years, accelerated of course by the early demise but problematically hyped even before that.

OK fine, but that's DeMarco, not anybody special.

Linares boxed DeMarco's ears off for several rounds until he got tired and careless and got caught on his weak chin.

unfortunately for us and him...arum signed him to protect his interests. dude was better than everyone saw. he was a complete boxer when he came from velenzuela. his skills sort of diminished over time...but his punch was still there. after taking that elbow and suffering that huge gash on his head against demarco, most guys would have quit, but he went on to beat demarco into submission. amazing fighter.
