Golovkin is the best man Canelo can fight right now so he deserves credit for that

No , you're basing him being past prime off the Jacobs fight where he was 34 years of age. Since when do fighters suddenly become past it at 34?

Martinez dominated Pavlik at 34 and looked better in all his subsequent bouts up to the age of 38.

Froch was thought to be past it after the Ward fight , but then came back and blitzed Bute and Mack at 35 , dominated Kessler at 36 and knocked out Groves at 37.

Its all about levels. Golovkins level was raised so he looked less destructive than before. Thats all there is to it.

 

I disagree here. If he really wanted Golovkin he would have defended his WBC belt instead of ducking him.

I don't buy it either, even though Gennady did say something to this effect before the fights. Brook and Jacobs are two top shelf fighters; I don't see even a guy as good as GGG deliberately playing games with these dudes. Granted he could have pursued a more intelligent gameplan vs Brook, but I guess it was his way of saying Kell had nothing for him. If he rematches Jacobs and beats the snot out of him, then I'll buy that theory.

If you look at his earlier fights he was definitely a bit faster and spryer than he is now. Conversely, he might be hitting harder than ever. But I think he's been on a gradual physical decline for a couple of years now. Fortunately his style isn't dependent on reflexes or speed, so I'd say he's fighting close to full capacity.

I think GGG just walks Nelo down. I think he walks him down as he wants, and when he wants. Canelo isn't that great on the inside. I think GGG is a dangerous fighter on the inside. I would shocked if Canelo beat Golovkin - especially after Floyd walking Nelo down later in their fight.

 

Canelo feels comfortable fighting on the retreat and even on the ropes while countering. So putting him on the retreat doesn't mean that he is automatically discombobulated. On the other hand Triple G didn't look too comfortable in his last fight when he was forced to retreat. Maybe because he usually doesn't have to and therefore it's something he hasn't practiced enough.

 

So at age 33.. Golovkin would be in his prime... I gotcha. Lol.

 

No need to. How many undefeated champions IN HISTORY get called out of their prime? 37-0 33 KO's... And he's out of his prime... How about not. I'm not confusing anything. You're confusing fighting bums with fighting legit competition. Golovkin hasn't slipped in the least bit like his fan boys suggest. He's just fighting the Kell Brooks' and Daniel Jacobs of the world instead of fighting the Dominic Wades and David Lemieux of the world.

 

Canelo vacated. Alvarez will never receive full credit for beating a past prime GGG. Hell, I mean he's going to get knocked out by an over the hill Golovkin anyways. So the thread is kind of pointless anyways.
