Understandably people are very excited after watching such a thrilling fight but let's not get carried away. Just like Gatti Ward consisted of sloppy boxing so did last night's slug fest.
People are suggesting Rios now takes the 140 division, He is a brawler, he fought another brawler..thats what happens, you get a toe to toe war. If he fights a boxer or a genuine top level counter puncher or anyone with good footwork I can see him getting easily outpointed. His punches werent exactly accurate and snappy. Marquez would make him look ordinary

  2. People are excited because it was a great fight. I haven't seen any Rios KO1 Mayweather threads yet.

Lets not forget that marquez gassed in the last 4 rounds of the last pac fight. I think pac boxed alot more then rios will. He may gas again you never know.

Marquez had a lot of problems with the baby bull in the first fight. I know that he and Rios don't fight the same but Rios is a better pressure fighter than Diaz. Marquez is not getting any younger. He also got some problems with Katsidis another rather limited pressure fighter. I think that JMM-Rios will be a FOTY and very closely contested fight. For once Rios was dramatically underrated after the Arbil fight. He has an ok defense and he can box a little bit himself. His durability is incredible not only his chin is rock solid but he is not prone to cuts or swelling.

Rios will be difficult for anyone at 140. JMM, Matthysse, Garcia, and Khan all have enough bravado to stand and trade with Rios. When that happens it gives Rios a puncher's chance at winning. I don't expect him to take over the division. But you're wrong if you think he's easy work unless he's fighting someone like Mayweather or maybe Pacquiao (depends on how he fights Rios).

Rios tough. But I agree he's not ready for the elite at 140. Put him against a brawler he looks amazing. Put him against a boxer, watch his last fight with Abril to see what happens.

I'm rooting for Bam Bam,his laidback personality and **** talking is good for the sport, but being realistic I don't see him reaching that elite level, hope I'm wrong.

This always happens here on ESB just after a fighter has a good fight.

Rios can get outboxed, quite easily actually. BUT, if Bob Arum is smart, Rios will only be in with brawlers for the time being. This is good promotion. It makes Rios look good and his fights exciting. Later on down the road, as he racks up endless amount of brawler victories and has a solid background of very good fighters, Bob might just put him in with a elite boxer-puncher. By then, Rios would have had some great experience and confidence and a huge fan base for his exciting fights. Arum then could cash out on this soon to be possible cow. Of course only if the plan is executed correctly.

If it were easy, it would have been many times over before he got to the championship level against the likes of Acosta, Peterson, and Antillon. His skills are limited, but he's got heart, power, durability, and a few inside tricks that brought him to where he's at.
