2009 is the year British Boxing died.....they are rebuilding as we speak. It will probably take 10 years for them to get back on their feet....

 

Now lets not overreact. Yeah, 2009 has been a rough year for British boxing. But we still have so many talented fighters like Carl Froch or David Haye moving up to Heavyweight. Unfortunately the Vitali Klitschko vs Haye fight was crushed because of bad negotiations.

Ok no disrespect to Hatton but what level was he on? The guy was a very good 140 lb. fighter and nothing more. Nice guy but a great fighter? Sorry no dice. Witter was merely an annoyance to him and had nothing to bring to the table to get Hatton to fight him.

I am a bit of a Hatton fan, but don't dislike Witter at all.

Not saying it would be impossible, but unlikely.

Hatton at his peak was faster, had better footwork, higher workrate and at least equal power.

The only thing Witter really has is his southpaw stance and awkwardness, which is no good when you give rounds away to guys like Lovemore N'Dou.

Witter struggles against solid fighters, ala Bradley, with a good workrate. The Hatton from 2002-7 would have too much for the Yorkshireman. Hatton TKO Witter, within 8.

The ref was going to stop the fight remember? He wouldnt have told Witter to step up if he wasnt. Did it not seem apparent that he couldnt do any better agasint that kid( prospect/contender ) ? He seemed to think so and he quit on his stool to save face.

Hatton seemed not interested because he may have been scared of him or he was just being a ****. Why not just beat up Witter ? Lewis beat up Bruno...so what gives?

 

The Lewis vs Bruno fight only really happened because Bill Cayton wanted to slip in an easy defence for Tommy Morrison of his WBO title first - rather than go straight into a unification fight.

Mickey Duff almost priced Bruno out of the fight until Lewis's manager basically told him that this was the deal or no fight, once Morrison had gone elsewhere.

The real public demand was for Lewis vs Bowe..... with people hoping he could fight Bruno at some stage.

Other than a few Hatton haters, who has really demanded Hatton vs Witter (other than Witter's camp).

He has always had bigger fish to fry.

 

Anyone that thought Hatton was ducking Witter is a jackass. A guy who travels to take on TWO #1 P4P fighters is not one to duck someone as limited and trash as Witter.

 

what hatton always says about witter is that he wasnt interested in giving witter a payday. especially after witter did nothing but bad mouth hatton from the moment he realised hatton was his meal ticket.

the facts are that witter couldnt draw flys to **** in england, he was fighting in front of between 2 and 5 k people when hatton was filling arenas.

the truth is possibly witter was all risk and **** all reward for hatton. make no bones about it, witter is over rated always has been. everyone makes him out to be some power punching switch hitter, look at him in detail. he is nothing of the sort, he switch hits but the rest is just VERY VERY ordinary.

personally i always thought junior would have made hatton look like **** in a fight, but i dont think anyone that is as inactive as witter in a fight would have beaten a YOUNG hatton; bear in mind that a pre Maussa hatton was frankly a bit of a beast (not a great , nothing over the top, but a very good fighter and VERY VERY VERY active in rounds).

dont let hattons performances as he got older and his totally ****ed body took over sway you, he would have beaten the hell out of witter come the champion ship rounds, he just wouldnt have looked good in the first 8 or so.. (hattons been shot for a long time, the weight and balloning got to him, just as everyone said it would).
