    That is true and a very good point. Not to discriminate against the other worthy suggestions - shall we now move from Conn and try to select the best fighter he beat?

    William David Conn defeated Young Corbett III.

    He also beat Gus Lesnevich, but Corbett beat Gus soundly. So I’ll go with Corbett. (Conn also beat Zale and Zivic and a few other notables, but Corbett was a helluva fighter so that’s my pick.)
