Well Id say the second part is already true; although you probably mean outwrestle the olympic champion and outgrapple say the mundial or ADCC champion. Although with GSP and Fedor being the representatives of wrestling and grappling, I think there is a fine chance. I don't see Drysdale or Roger outgrappling Fedor in MMA, meaning with the ability to punch on the ground.
"Well rounded" is just a stupid misconception in my eyes. Frankly im tired of hearing it. The greats in MMA werent succesful because they were sooo well rounded. They were succesful because they knew what there bread and butter was an excelled at that.
I would add that when Cro Cop was at his best he could have oustruck the vast majority of K1 strikers in mma.
In fairness Ernesto had his number. But he was a very very good kickboxer to have beaten Aerts, Bonjaskey and Le Banner you have to be pretty good.
OWGP 2006. The guy was untouchable. He completely annihilated Wandy and did the same with Barnett. Iv never seen CC that focused ever. His attitude was fairly nonchalant when he was KO'ing guys as if he bought into his own hype. But that day he really really wanted it.
We may not be as far away from each other as you think. I'm not asking them to be well-rounded, but rather MMA-specialized. Who says that future MMA champions won't be able to devote themselves to training takedowns, striking, or grappling for years in MMA gyms under MMA conditions? I concur. And incidentally, I believe that Carthage should be destroyed.
Yes, I should have specified. If I'm not mistaken, Frank Shamrock did outgrapple an Olympic wrestler at one point. Quite possible. :think Fedor also holds honors in amateur Sambo, which counts for something.
