Floyd has never fought anyone nearly as dangerous as Margarito.

Well Ok Castillo was almost as dangerous but look what happened when Floyd fought him the first time. In the second fight Castillo was simply suffering from negative reinforcement.

I really do think you're letting your emotions cloud your judgement here. If Floyd doesn't fight Cotto next I'll be dissapointed as a fight fan but nothing more. Cotto is not yet an all time great & I'm not sure he definitely will be. He's fatefully flawed, like Hatton, in some key areas & I think Floyd would win as comfortably as he did against Hatton.

Don't get me wrong I'm not dismissing your opinion but lets say he KO's Cotto then retires. Cotto subsequesntly goes on to lose to De La Hoya & Hatton, all hypothetical you understand & not necessarily what I believe will happen, Floyds victory would mean less historically. Unfair but true.

Just because we all want to see the fight doesn't mean Floyd should be derided if it doesn't happen. Besides, my own personal feeling is that De La Hoya will selfishly scupper this fight for all by fighting Cotto himself.

Please don't compare Hatton to Cotto. Hatton IS a flawed fighter and a 140 pounder. Cotto is an elite fighter and a real 147 pounder. Yes, Cotto isn't an ATG right now, but to anyone that understands boxing, he is clearly the biggest threat to Floyd and has a 50 times better chance of beating him that Hatton had.

There's no point of thinking about your hypothetical situation. Cotto is clearly Mayweather's biggest threat and if Floyd fights him, there is no doubt that boxing fans will respect him more. If he wins, his ATG ranking is without question going to rise. Past 135, Floyd's best accomplishments are winning a wide decision over Judah, winning a close fight with a past-prime DLH, and stopping a B level hyped JWW in Hatton. Cotto is an elite natural WW in his prime and an obvious threat stylistically to Mayweather.. Floyd needs to fight him, unless he's satisfied with his ATG ranking already.. which isn't near boxers like Jones and Whitaker from recent times.

That would make sense if someone didn't know at the time Floyd Mayweather was looking at possible fights with De La Hoya and or Mosley for real money.
true enough Margarito would have been an easy fight. but then again Margarito would be an easy fight for almost any top ranked Welter, but We know that Floyd Mayweather does not fight tvery often. So to train and fight an easy fight like Margarito in which he would later be criticized for even fighting someone like Antonio Margarito. Would have only taken time away and possible dates with fighters that had name recognition, money, and meaningful titles and positions in the sport to offer.
Would you seriously consider taking time out to fight Margarito while you're chasing big PPV fights?
Margarito has less people watching him fight for free than De La Hoya, Mosley or Mayweather has watching on PPV.

If Margarito was so easy, why not both? Last I looked, 20 mil + 8 mill equals more then just 20 mill.

Anyway, I decided your post was worthless when you said any top WW eould beat Margarito. Not to mention fans who talk about PPV's and what's best for the fighters pockets are pointless.

He was the kgest reigning titlist @ WW and had defeated more ring ranked WW's then anyone. Besided, people in boxing who were NOT fanboys new Margarito was a top WW.

You Floyd ***s are just pissy because Arum and Margarito made Floyd look bad for a year.
