Thats interesting because a few years back people were talking up a fight between Cotto & Hatton at 140. Thats actually a moot point because I was only comparing them in the sense that they both have flaws. As for my understanding of boxing, whats to understand? Of course Cotto is a threat to Mayweather but that wasn't my point was it?

I really don't believe Mayweather beating Cotto will suddenly propel him to the top of the mythical all time great list if people dont place him there already. You speak about his all time great ranking as if there is a set criteria that he has to fulfill. Please enlighten me as I was unaware there was a set rule book that should categorically define every elite fighters place in history.

Look dont think I'm having a pop at you, it's actually very refreshing to have a discussion with someone like you who can converse on an intellectual level, it's just I really do believe Mayweather would beat Cotto & move no further forward in the eyes of many others. I say this as neither a Floyd or Cotto zealot just a boxing fan. I must emphasise I do want the fight to happen, very much so, but I dont see it as the career defining fight for Floyd as I believe he has had them already.

I think you're making this a little too complicated. Let me simplify what I said into 1 sentence. If Mayweather wants to improve his legacy in a big way and gain more respect from fans, he should beat the only other elite fighter at 147 right now, Miguel Cotto, who is a real threat to him unlike Hatton was.

It's not a "career defining fight" like Leonard-Hearns, but it's close and it's a fight that I think will impact Floyd's legacy in a very big way. A victory over a prime, elite natural WW with a style that troubles him is huge in my book. It would be a true 50/50 superfight, unlike the hyped "superfights" that happened with DLH and Hatton this year. I'm not sure about you or others, but to me a clear victory over Cotto would be the most impressive victory of his entire career.

You have actually convinced me a little with that last post but I still feel the Floyd naysayers, and there are many, will knock him whether he beats Cotto or not.

Like I said previously though I feel, unfortunately, De La Hoya will spoil this for all of us & fight Cotto himself. I am by no means one of these people who dislike De La Hoya but I wish he would just retire now. He is doing well as a promoter & has put on some great match ups recently so I hope he lets the new elite thrive without him having to be on their ledger as I feel he is just a name now.

Hi, thanks for the PM. I would have replied but apparently I have to have 50 posts before I can do so?

Anyhoo, I was actually referring to the recent incident involving Yo-Sam Choi but it is true of every fallen fighter at any level. These men risk their lives for our entertainment & it just sickens me when we get morons coming on here calling the likes of De La Hoya & Mayweather bums & frauds.

I really don't understand why the mods dont condense more threads & delete some. Seems like there are three Floyd threads started everyday & most of what is written in them is mindless drivel. It gets a little tiring having to wade through the childish squabbles in order to read the decent posts by the intelligent folk.

What ever man, it hurts you floyd haters feelings to know the other side of the truth, so what ever. Anyway it was a piece ESPN's Dan Rafel did regaurding floyd rejecting Arum's offer 8 mill to fight Margarito.
the bottom line is no one is afraid of cotto or margarito.

People need to stop using the word "hater" to describe anyone who has a difference of opinion to themselves.
