Let's remind ourselves that David Diaz is nothing special.

how about his wins over sasakul and ledwaba? those are the top guys in the division and pac ran right through them. thing is, you can criticise pac all you want. still when the time comes that pac is fading and some young mexican fighter catches him and wins over pac,

YOU GUYS WILL DO THE EXACT SAME THING THAT WE FILIPINOS DID.

Most likely true.....but he is not nearly as good as some of the people here (mainly a few Pacfans who don't represent the Pacnation here as a whole) are making him out to be. He is not a top 5 LW IMO. Top 10? Yup. But I think Juan and Julio Diaz beat him. I think Santa Cruz would beat him in a rematch and easily, Casamayor and Campbell. But he is no pushover.

His style will either play right into Pacquiao's hands, or his size will allow him to impose his style. I think it's the former and he will be stopped quickly by something he doesn't see coming.

    And styles makes fights.

Pac hates getting crowded on, pushed around and fighting backwards.
At best, he has an average inside fighting game, skills wise.

If Diaz hits Pac hard on the chin, just one time, and stuns him for a moment, (ala Larios) then he bulldozes his way in, sticks his head on Pac's chest and wails away like crazy, throwing a bushel of windmill punches, he might just put Manny on his ass.

i just hate how people say that pac is just going to claim a paper belt. pac could have gotten more belts by fighting lesser champs in the other weight classes. he takes an easier fight than jmm then all the hate ours in again. how about jmm? he is fighting a very very old casamayor. who is waaaaay past his prime and who went life and death with the crude katsidis. are you guys going to hate on that too? at least david diaz is in his physical prime.

if you hate on pac for beating a shot morales and taking on a not so good fighter in diaz. hate on jmm to for fighting an old casamayor and beating nobodies in jandaeng and jaca. at least be fair.

I think Diaz is gonna get caught coming in by a left hook/uppercut hybrid and get dropped.

That's possible, but Pac hasnt KTFO'd an opponent with one punch since 2004, I think.

And Diaz has a big enough heart, I'm sure he'll stand up after getting knocked down.

If Manny could string up 3 to 5 "TIMMMMBEEEER!" style knockdowns tomorrow, then maybe he can win by KO/TKO.

But Im not too sure he can do it.

Oh Diaz will get up. Pacquiao will find that LW's can take a bit more than SFW (who he wasn't stopping as regularly as he was FW's). But I think once Diaz realizes that Pacquiao can hurt him, he'll back off just enough for Pacquiao's speed advantage to take over and give him the space he needs.

Now the opposite is this. If Pacquiao catches Diaz and Diaz just comes forward, then Pacquiao may have some problems. But lets be honest, this isn't about Diaz being a good fighter (he is above average, certainly not great, but he is certainly not to be overlooked), but his style mixed with size disrupting Pacquiao's style.

I dunno....I don't read enough of the nonsense here anymore to tell.

I know I read something like this from a well known PacFan: Diaz is the best LW in the world because he beat Santa Cruz, who really beat Casamayor, who already beat Campbell who beat Juan Diaz.

But I have also read that Diaz is a bum and not even a C level fighter. Both are extreme and both are FOS (full of ****).

You know, I agree with all you say. He's definitely more heart and determination then skill. I just wonder if Pac's punches will carry enough oomph! to keep Diaz back. DD should enter the ring with the mentallity that he's the stronger guy, whether he is or not. I thought Morales squeaked a close win, but DD did show enough in a loss that he might be strong enough to overpower the smaller guys moving up.

In a way, Pac has to win impressive to continue any talks of a fight w/ DLH or Hatton. So far he's moved up so well you can't really count him out. And yeah, Diaz is a perfect candidate to make a statement @ 135. I like Pac and I certainly don't want him to lose. He's had an advantage of speed and power over everyone he's faced to date pretty much. He' never had to rely on his ability to box. And he's moving up where it's unlikely he'll be the stronger fighter. Time after time we've seen better boxers move up only to be beaten by less skilled, but stronger fighters. This is a cross roads fight for Pac even though its against someone like David Diaz.

Personally I want him to win big. Big possibilities with Pac if he wins. He seems detemined and serious for this fight. I think Diaz will give him a tough fught, but I see Pac by a hard fought UD. I don't think Diaz will back away at all and keep pressing Pac, but getting hit too much. Kind of in a Vinny Paz take-a-punch-no-matter-what-way. :D

    :thumbsup

Pac's chin isnt as flawless as some posters here think.

He's always had a slighty shaky chin. His opponents just cant hit him hard enough and as often enough because theyre partly in defensive mode.

If Pac had little power, he'd get KO'd often. Opponents would just wade through his punches and steamroll him.

I rate it at a 4.8 to 5.5 out of 10, if you consider the quality of opponents that get to hit his face.

Let's just all (both-fans and non-fans of pac) take it like it is:

Pac is testing the waters at 135. The best way is to fight a guy who is dangerous enough, but not really that much of a threat and has a belt to make the trip worthwhile. Diaz fits the bill perfectly as he is not an elite lightweight but is a mid-level guy who is capable of giving Pac a tough fight. And if Pac wins, he adds another chapter to his legacy.

I for one won't raise him that much on an ATG sense. But he sure is taking the step in the right direction.
