I have a feeling Cus was a stubborn man. The fighters he developed he dominated them from orphaned kids into his ways. Got into their heads. Controlled them. I never heard of him doing anything successful with a fighter who came to him late on but I could be wrong. He liked to start from kids. There were sad cases of kids that did not match up into the programming he devised. For the ones it worked for it worked. Even leaving Cus they remained Cus fighters. He was clearly something of a manipulator.

I don't get the impression that he was the kind of coach who concentrated on retaining anything natural. It had to be his way or the highway. The fighters he developed fought from the same template. Even the blubbery buster Mathis. Cus only dealt in compact, fast handed box fighters. I dont think George Foreman would fit into that. There would be a clash of personality.
