Anyone up for scoring this one? I haven't watched this fight for a decade. I was wondering if anyone else was up to scoring this with fresh eyes, and discussing their score here? I am about to get started on this one. This content is protected Cheers,
R9- Lewis Lots of clinching by both guys, Evander started well but Lewis steals it with some hard uppercuts in the last minute.
Lewis out landed Holyfield 195 to 137. This included both jabs and power punches landed. Given that there were knock knockdowns it would be hard to give Holyfield more than 5 rounds, as he was out landed in the majority of the rounds. Lewis won it cleanly by 2-3 points. I can not recall the media or anyone suggesting this was a robbery. R12- Holyfield Holyfield landed a nice combo earlier that seemed to bother Lewis. Lewis clinched excessively while looking for one big shot.
R1- Lewis R2- Lewis R3- Holyfield R4- Lewis R5- Lewis R-6 Holyfield R7- Holyfield R8- Lewis R9- Lewis R10- Lewis R11- Lewis R12- Holyfield Holyfield's lack of activity hurt him badly. When he is active, he fights as well. I scored it 8-4 Lewis. I remember scoring it 7-5 Lewis when I watched it a decade ago. Having watched this, I am convinced a younger Holyfield beats Lewis. Holyfield was only fighting in spurts here and his lack of activity had little to do with Lewis and more to do with his own age and boxing wear and tear.
I agree, But Holyfield was past his prime and Lewis (a late bloomer) was in his prime. I can see a younger more active Holyfield beating him. 8-4 Lewis in this one though
Holy just didn't have the range or power to deal with Lewis, and his prime years had some losses. Bowe showed us this.
A draw. Lewis deserved a point deducted for holding which would have given Vander the win. Lewis looked good to me , but not great. He was slow and didn't have a great work-rate. His size and strength was too much for fading Holyfield. I have little doubt that Tyson Fury would have taken him to school.
