I just want to get this out of the way. I have been saying for years that Wilder is a fraud, and I hold to it. I think his title defense picks were shameful, and he specifically targeted the medically unfit, including Ortiz, who had high blood pressure and was nearly not cleared to fight, Stiverne, who had an obesity disease, and Fury, which was a cherry-pick gone wrong. The rest were just bums.

I just want to get a vote: do you believe that Wilder has a legitimate body of work for a "world champion?"

Jesus no. Primo Carnera probably has a better resume.

    Absolutely not.

He deserves full credit for 4 fights though.

The two against Ortiz, the last two against Fury. But he went 2-2 out of those.

His best win is against Ortiz. That's his body of work.

So for someone claiming to be the best HW on the planet, its not a good body of work at all.

No. not for someone who held a belt for 5 years. I mean it's a fairly weak era having said that at no time did Wilder attempt to either unify or even take on any of the top contenders nevermind another champion.
The majority of us who are not deluded understand that Fury was a cherry pick after lying about the Joshua fight in which he later admitted to turning down a record payday. Fury had time out and had got very out of shape and wasn't considered that heavy handed at that time.
As with many of these elements the dim look at these elements in hindsight rather than understanding what the consensus was at the time.
The other fallacies that get banded about by the deluded is that Fury is the undisputed GOAT of this era despite him not fighting a lot of the top guys himself. on top of this narrative that's laid on top is that all the contenders like Whyte and Parker are crap and that Joshua is also a bum despite AJ clearly having the deepest resume of the top 3 and the only one before Usyk entered the picture who tried to unify all the belts.
So to someone who is reasonably sensible the fallacy stacking is hilarous as well as transparent.
I don't entirely blame Wilder who isn't very bright and appears to be easily led by his management team. who clearly understood Wilder's limitations keeping him at home defending against dustbin men and C level Cruiserweights. I think although limited in skills could have developed into a better fighter if he'd been challenged and had a team that didn't just rely on power to just bail him out.
So in some ways he massively over achieved and on the other side he didn't fulfill his true potential because he was surrounded by gobshites who were just there to milk that titty until the cherry pick went wrong.

It depends what standards you hold a world champion to. His resume sucks for anyone who wants to legitimise him as being on the same level as Joshua or Fury, but it's pretty good compared to Martin, Ruiz, Stiverne and all that lot. His two wins against Ortiz are decent, but his defences against Moline, Duhaupas, Szpilka, Washington, Breazeale and shot Arreola are mediocre to garbage.

Prime Liakhovich would be 2nd on his list at worst. But he fought an old, shot lLiakhovich and still paid him to take a dive. Add in Scuba Scott, that is at least two blatantly fixed fights Wilder had.

Good post. I forgot how long he held the belt for. Five years and the best he can show for it is Ortiz is a weak resume however you spin it.

Compare it to Usyk and it's shameful, absolutely shameful.

In this day and age, Wilder to use your terminology, has a legitimate body of work to be a champion His body of work is weak in comparison to great champions but with up to four champs in every weight class there are worse champs out there.

The same people who say Wilder sucks, say Fury is an atg for going 2-0-1 against him
