Klitschko was an inactive, retired old man who returned for one last payday in 2017 against Joshua. As good an effort as Wlad brought forth in his losing performance that night, he was not top 10 rated because retired boxers are not rated.

Joshua’s first defence against an actual top 10 opponent was against Joseph Parker in March 2018, just 10 days shy of 2 whole years since Joshua first became a world champion, his 5th fight as a belt-holder.

 

I have to disagree. First, Looking at the rankings around the time, Klitschko was most definitely a top 10 fighter when he fought Joshua in his 3rd fight. Second, Takam was also recognized as a top 10 fighter when they fought in Joshua's 4th fight...

Klitschko was "inactive" due to Fury messing him around and then Fury retiring in October 2016, but Klitschko was not retired until after the Joshua fight. Still considered top 10 by The Ring and PBO boxing ratings when he fought Joshua. Actually TBRB dropped him from #1 for inactivity the month they announced the fight with Joshua. Then reinserted Klitschko at #2 right after the Joshua fight.

So, it's fair to say that what I wrote was accurate:

He's got a poor record for a major title holder that's sure. I actually think his talent is a better than his record. Excellent power, usually decent conditioning Fury 3 aside. Akward style that worked for him.

Stiverne 1, Ortizx2, are about the only credible wins I give him.
The rest for a supposed top level boxer are cannon fodder. Areola well past it, Liakhovich - shot to bits and was he ever that good. Washington, Molina etc all B level fighters who have done little against the top tier. In fairness Wilder stopped them all as well. I do think a comeback against Ruiz, Whyte, etc could be entertaining. Personally there's a bit of me wants to see him Vs Joe Joyce.

 

For a weak champion, yes. Apart from 1 or 2 guys, the boxers he beat were on the whole uninspiring. He did beat a lot of them though.

 

Wilder doesn't have a good resume at all. Given the length of time he was a titlist, it may very well be in the top 5 of all bad resumes concerning HW titlists.
