Let's Settle This Once And For All: Rocky Marciano vs Lennox Lewis?

Lewis, he has too much of a size advantage plus he is good on the inside too. Those uppercuts will be too much for marciano

 

you are right to point out that the fighters today are simply bigger and stronger. but if he were to fight in today's age then that would mean he would also be able to take advantage of all the modern training/nurtrition advantages these monsters have today.

wouldnt mean he'd be the wrecking ball he was back then but it would mean he could be competitive if some of these other guys can as well.

remember, tomasz adamek is fighting literally 50 lbs over the limit he was fighting at when he fought dawson only a few years ago. no, rocky isnt putting on 50lbs but he could put on 15-20lbs probably and be around 210 if he had today's nutrition. look what mackie shilstone has done for some of these guys.

he would still be beat by lennox but he could be a competitive heavy today.

 

Even as a Haye fan, can't see this as being 100%.

Let's say Cruiserweight Haye fights him? (although I think its a pointless division) Haye, at his best at the weight, against Mormeck vs Marciano? I can't see it being clear cut at all.

But I agree that a fighter whos well aware of his deficiencies, like Wlad, would not be impervious to Marciano's gameplan and would box safely to a win or late stoppage.

Haye, whilst aware of his shortcomings (chin, stamina although didn't look a problem against Valuev) is also aware that shorter aggressive guys cause him the most problems. Can't remember the source but he's definitely said it, if anyone else can find the link it'd be very much appreciated :good

I just think that comparing fighters of today with guys from the 40's and 50's doesn't work.

Marciano never fought an athlete of Hayes calibre in his career! He fought slicksters in Charles and Walcott and posted great wins but the likes of Cockell, a half dead Joe Louis and a 70 year old Archie Moore prove nothing to me.

Haye is a blockbuster puncher with amazing speed and athleticism the likes of which Marciano could only dream of and that dream would be a nightmare. I just think athletes have evolved way too much to give this a fair shake.

 

Ali and Patterson must not have proved nothign when they fought Moore **** knows how many years later.

Rocky was tough as hell.. More durable then Lewis and maybe even more durable then Ali. I think he would pressure Lewis the same way Mercer did, only more relentless and more power shots.

Marciano's conditioning and stamina is much better then Lennoxs. I would also say that his power is better. Marciano would be in Lennox's chest all day. The way that Marciano crouches, he would avoid a lot Lennox's bombs. Lennox would have to punch down,in the air, which would tire Lennox out. Rocky wouldn't tire out. no way. meanwhile rocky would pound Lewis's body, and come up with a dynamite right hand. Rocky wouldn't give up. I think that this would be a bit like the Ray Mercer fight, but much more closer. Since rocky is MUCH better conditioned, and hits harder then mercer, he would win a UD. And he has more in his arsenal then a left jab, thats basically what carried mercer. There were times where Mercer suprised people and had Lennox on the ropes, but didn't have the power to seriously bother Lennox. Marciano would. Given he's smaller then Mercer, oh well, that's not a big deal, since nearly everything else is in Marciano's favor.
