If Vitali goes out there and tries to dust Peter early, it may prove to be a mistake. Peter has never been Ko'd and is generally pretty durable. Addtionally, such a tactic may force Vitali to expend much of his energy which he'll need later in the fight. My thinking is that Peter should be favored here. Vitali has spent too much time mending injuries that continue to haunt him, and at age 37, without having fought a single time in 4 years, nor beating a world beater in more like 5, he should be a big underdog in this scenario.

Vitali is the favorite by a a hefty bit, and I don't think you can even think for a second that Vitali is going in there trying to knock him out in 1 round. Vitali doesn't fight like that. If the knockout comes he'll take it.

    Vitali KO 9.

Peter has shown me nothing at the top level, and he has beaten nobody.
Even a ring rusty Vitaly should brutally KO him and a beat down will take place from the 5th round onwards.

Good stuff, Rico. It must be a nightmare -- no pun intended -- to try to find guys to emulate Vitali.

I agree with you. I'm thinking somewhere between 4-6 rounds. I don't believe Vitali is shot; the reports from his camp just don't lead to that judgment. I'm sure he doesn't have the stamina he once did, but Sam Peter isn't beating anyone in a stamina contest.

So then, for me, it's just about will Vitali's body hold up. He's only had two meaningful injuries in 36 pro fights. 1 out of 18. So around 6% or so. Of course, he's older now, so the chances go up. And he has to make it to the ring first.

The only way Peter can likely actually defeat Vitali is by KO. Vitali is too long and has the jab to control Sam and win points. Again, he's never been behind in any fight on the cards, or some statistic like that. Peter won't be the first guy to be ahead of him on the cards, either, I don't care how old Vitali is.

So that means Sam will likely need the KO. Vitali has never been KO'd in his pro boxing career, and seems to have only been legitimately KO'd one time in all of his fighting experience or so.

This is all heading to one conclusion. But Vitali still has to make it to the fight, not get injured and show he's not too old. I think he will do those things, as you do, Rico, and I think he will stop Peter probably in or before 6 rounds. If Peter relentlessly bulls his way to the inside, the fight could end even sooner.

another question is, if Vitali beats Peter.....

    What happens to Peter?

Does he try to come back?
    Does he quit?

    Thoughts

We'll be that much closer to the long-awaited end of the "Peter is the savior of the division, the guy that will rescue us from the Eastern Euros (and we don't care if he's not American)" pipe dream. We can then begin to move, in earnest, to the David Haye BS Express for the next 'savior' candidate to be exposed in the HW division.

Peter will stick around, but Klit-haters and Peter-lovers alike will get much, much quieter. Finally. The people who felt Peter was the 'solution' to the Klitschkos will retreat to their Rahman conspiracies, or whatever the next element in that sequence is or will be. We'll begin to hear again how 'boring' the division is. Etc.

Peter was one of the last great hopes of the anti-Klits. He was THE great hope, actually. If he loses, that's all gone. Peter-Wlad II? Why? So Wlad can KO him this time?

Peter would be functionally gone from the title picture, at least for now. Brewster's gone. Briggs is gone. Haye? Ba ha ha ha! I guess then the anti-Klits will look to guys like Povetkin and Valuev for help. But wait -- they're Eastern Euros! How about Fraudley Harrison and his glass jaw, maybe we can ressurect him? Lennox Lewis out of retirement? Rahman who got knocked out the ring by Maskaev and TKO'd vs Toney? When is Ike getting out of prison again? The haters will be in a tizzy.

If Peter loses, it's going to be awesome. Can't wait for the 11th, and I hope VK makes it there.

wow, 76% think Klitschko will win this one. Less than a quarter think Peter will do it.
Remarkable numbers. I thought there where a lot of Peteraddicts on the forum lately.

I'm taking Sammy for a few reasons.

    1. He is significantly younger.

    2. He is made of iron (something 99% of VitKlit's opponents weren't made of)

    3. He has better handspeed than people make out.

    4. VitKlit is coming off a 4 year layoff. Rusty? Guaranteed.

    5. VitKlit doesn't fight anything like Waldo. He leans back and leaves himself exposed. Sammy is going to have a field day with right hands and left hooks.

5 reasons are more than enough to pick Sammy here.

It depends on how much the layoff and the age effect Vitali. It is my contention that the Vitali of 2004 would beat Peter 99 times out of 100. He could box, slug, he had great defense and could take helacious punches as demonstrated during the Lewis fight. The problem is that we have no idea if that Vitali even exists anymore. I still give the edge to Vitali b/c I doubt he would have taken a fight with such a strong opponent if he thought he was shot. So I pick Vitali by stoppage inside of seven rounds.

Vitali by KO in 5 to 8 rounds.

    The reason?

The elder Klitschko is a great counterpuncher with underated defense & a great chin. He throws punches from many angles & he has a great uppercut, which should work perfectly vs. a short, stout bull like Peter. Vitali has a powerful jab too, although not the refined instrument of war that his brother's is, it's still very powerful & fast. His awkward style is very hard for his opponents to adapt to also.
