Whitaker was extremely well balanced inside. He covered up with his elbows, twisted, changed the height of himself, etc. And when on the offensive, he dug those shots around the side of the ribs rather well. Just ask Chavez. :D

    that wa a good pic

better than B-HOP strainin his face like his shitting

yeh Saddler is hel for Pep and Whittaker probably worse for Pea.

What about Chavez vs Pep you seen what Whittaker did to JCC with his footwork and angles not think Pep could do the same

Perhaps a lightweight prime Whitaker who was as bouncy as could be, but if he loses a step (as Pep had by the time of the Saddler fights) it's going to be very difficult for Pernell I feel to get the better of Saddler.

Of course, I would love to have a feel, with my own eyes just how far Pep had slipped when he fought Sandy, to know at what equivalent shape Whitaker should be in a hypothetical match up like this. Was Pep really at the Tito/Whitaker stage of his career when he was facing Pep? I'm not sure about that....

Hard to say. I think Pep, with his good movement will have an ok time with Chavez for the most part, but I think he is going to have to face some really torrid moments in a Chavez fight. I don't think Pep has the infighting technique to hang with Chavez, and so if Chavez can pin him, Pep will be in trouble. I think overall I'd pick Pep to edge it, but Chavez will make a mad rush towards the end and Pep will be holding on for dear life.

Whitaker was an excellent inside fighter. His work against Chavez was beautiful.

Whittaker at Lw really moved well and was more pep like so to speak. But it didnt do Pep any good

we cant really tell how bad Pep was when he fought SS though.

if your not using that Hearns vs Hgaler one send it my way

But Pep had good fitness and could move all 15. It would be if Chavez could adapt and cut him down in the ring a very tough ask.

And Pep was dirty enough to hold his own in the inside also he used his body weight well when clinching

    it was indeed

As you said mate, let's hope for the Chalky fights to somehow turn up. We are feeling our way through the dark here quite a bit.

Yeah i was just thinking because Pep was a career long fighter at his best weight, and Whittaker's best weight was 135 where he did have that movement, and the only lightweight version of Whittaker is the prime one, then we would be considering prime Pea. If you get what i mean?

But if we apply your equally as logical logic (strange wording i know!), then yes in a p4p sense it would be very difficult for a past prime Pea with a step lost to beat Sandy Saddler.

Before his plane crash, Pep's record was ridiculous, something like 107-1-1. He fought about once a month as well. Even after the crash, when he was not the fighter he used to be, he still had a very good record by any standards.

Since Pep fought about 240 fights and Pernell fought 46, that means even if your 10% stat is true, Pep actually fought slightly more fights against ranked opposition. But of course far less than 90% of his opponents were unranked bums.
