You never see any posts about this guy. You never hear about him on any big fight news. Watching him fight on you tube I cannot geta solid sense of how good he is as a fighter.

He has defended his WBA title now 8 times. One of those defenses was against Derrick Gainer who is not a poor boxer. John won an easy decison. He looks to have a good work rate and good power, but he looks pretty sloppy defensively. He just fought about 5 weeks ago.

Then there is the JMM bout of which I cant get any footage and have never seen the fight. How does this guy beat JMM so widely on the scorecards? JMM is considered one of the best boxers in the business.

John is still undefeated, he fights all over his region, indonesia, australia, Japan. I would imagine he is widly popular in Indonesia, but you never hear a peep out of him on the world level.

Why isnt this guy near the p4p list?

the only named fighter i know he's fought is Marquez

you gotta give it to him though hes got a big undefeated record

cant say hes not on the p4p list for fighting bums coz thats what calzaghes been doing

I talk about him often. I've also seen many of his fights. He is good. He is probably on the decline by now from what i saw in his last fight. Although he dominated his opponent and was never even hurt.

    Great fighter imo.

One of the best in the game today but doesn't have the exposure to back it up.

I have to say after seeing many of his fights i consider him one of my top5 faves and also the most underrated fighter in boxing

he didnt beat jmm the judges did. it was a typical home town decision

did you even see the fight? Not a hometown decision. One of the judges was mexican i think. Or Mexican-aMerican. Jurge Garcia or something. And he had John winning clearly

I saw that JMM was deducted two points on the cards. I havent seen the fight so cant comment. Still even with the two points you have John close on a split decision.

Any win versus a JMM is a great win! How has this guy stayed under the radar so long? You would think a big promoter, american or german would pick this guy up after the JMM fight.

Its worked well for Pac and Donaire. If anyone has any footage of the JMM fight would love to see it. Yes this guy is kinda like a calzaghe, defending his one title and staying under the radar, yet is undefeated and has beaten a couple at least quality guys. Looks like he is just fighting mandatories.

Even without the two points deducted, John wins 8 rounds to 4, 7 rounds to 3 (2 even) and 6 rounds to 4 with 2 even.

I had it 7 rounds to 5 for John.

I had it 115-111. and yes i saw the fight.

Most people (if not all) who were watching this fight are JMM fans, and expected JMM to beat the **** out of John.

I don't think your board has many Chris John fans, and I don't think that manny boxing fans who are not JMM fans or John fans watched this fight. imo that explains the bias of the posters on your boards.

Only seen him against JMM, to be honest. He beat him allright, but it was a close fight...good fighter, but very much stay-at-home and on-his-own-terms. Wish I could see more of him, esp. against better opposition.

i thought john won the fight close v marquez.

point deduction in about 11 was poor.
    but it happens.

if you have marquez winning , then it can be by the same margin, close.

i have often said with john , out of sight , out of mind.

he just travelled to japan to fight in his opponents backyard, and is clearly a good boxer, not the most dynamic and a little saftey first, but it does not stop other fighters of a similar ilk being ranked.

he does not get the credit he deserves and people seem to dismiss the marquez fight completely.

you would think the facts speak for themselves, 10 defenses, hard to beat, been in with marquez and made marquez struggle.

this alone should make people think maybe the man is very good.

I saw the fight (might still be on youtube) and it was a terrible decision. JMM was countering the **** out of John, and even stalking him at times. It's just as much Marquez' fault for taking the fight in Indonesia though. He should've tried harder for the ko as he appeared more than capable of pulling it off.
