I don't know how McClellan traded with him without any fear or nerves. Jackson vs Benn would've been epic.
That fight would have been better than Hagler Hearns (If thats even possible). Can you imagine the carnage?!?!!??! Dam near brings a tear to my eye...
McCellan was as hard as they come and packed a punch about as hard as Jackson's in my opinion (at least at 160). Its quite strange watching it, because you don't see McCellan engage in the sort of dissection that McCallum used on Jackson, instead McCellan just seemed to believe that he could take Jackson's head off before Jackson could take his head off. The makings of a brilliant fight and a knockout very pleasing on the eyes. Jackson-Benn. See it going in a similar sort of fashion as McCellan-Benn, with the bigger Benn putting him out of there earlier than he did McCellan (without the tragic ending of course :-()
You couldn't see it in this video, but this was the fight when Jackson, after landing the KO punch, just stood there, held one hand up and motioned towards the ground as Drayton timbered. He knew he had KO power and he knew when he'd landed it. Most guys would mauled someone when they hit them with a paralyzing punch with a delayed fall. Not the Hawk, he knew it was over and just stood back and watched.
I think even a guy with a great chin like Hagler, could be if not KO'd, at least dropped or hurt from a shot like the one Jackson KO'd Graham with. Graham walked into the shot and didn't see it coming. But what are the chances of that happening? I also wonder what happens if LaMotta takes that type of punch. The St. Valentine's Day Massacre was one of the most insane beatings I've seen a guy take from a big puncher. LaMotta was tired, Robinson hit him with everything in the book in the last 3 rounds, upstairs and downstairs, and LaMotta somehow stayed on his feet.
He probably has great tendon strength because he tended to put his shoulder into the punches. But I honestly think most of Julian's one-punch sleepjobs were more S.A.T than power (S.A.T - speed, accuracy, timing). They were bang on the right spots, unseen.
I don't think someone like Eubank would leave himself in a position to take one of those punches. He took a few of Benn's best, but Benn punched from the foot without warning, timing or accuracy and was faster with his feet and body than Jackson at getting into position to unload, and could unload from more positions than Julian could. I honestly think Benn had more raw power than Jackson, he was the more robust puncher of the two.
And Gerald McClellan had probably the heaviest hands of anyone, together with amazing timing. Not a one-punch KO artist as such like Jackson, and didn't have the natural punching leverages of Benn, but McClellan had heavy-****in-hands. Hearns was like Jackson as a KO puncher - S.A.T (speed, accuracy, timing).
I think Hagler would beat him also and Hagler could probably take his punch. Probably the only man who could have if landed clean.. But when Jackson landed and his opponent was falling, Jackson knew it was over.
Thats a great description. I recall when Jackson KOed Norris, thats precisely what I thought. He just shut Norris off.
