Let's talk about the "Neck Harness"

What's your opinion on these things.

    Are they as I suspect...useless

Surly neck rolls and the bodyweight exercises are better.

Is there any real function to rolling the head with a weight strapped on to it ?

What about guys like Rahman and Floyd who I have seen in training vids spending quit a few minutes - lying in the ring , head out over the apron and lifting the head up....

Is that really more a trap move that seems ineffective, or have I got it all wrong?

    Thoughts on this....

I was going to buy it before, because someone at my gym who can take a hell of a shot told me it works really well, but then someone else told me the roll works really good. I just do regular neck exercises lying on the deck. 4 count exercise, moving the head up is 1, to the left 2, to the right 3, back to the front is 4. do that around 25 times with a 45 second rest period. Works well for me.

The neck harness gives you more options, you don't use the head harness for function your using it to strengthen the neck, neck bridges have no actual function in boxing either, both will strengthen your neck.

i prefer harnesses over bridges any day. way easier to isolate the muscles and you can do more with them and its easier to pick and choose your weights then doing endless reps of bridges. bridges are alot more dangerous, i still do both tho. but bridges are more suited for wrestling where the same actual movement is used to get out of certain holds etc. but they are good neck workouts. i use my hands, harnesses, bridges, weighted neck raises off a bench. get the best of everything. look at the size of overeems neck, he uses harnesses to train his neck alot

One great use for the Harness, is Tying a small Parachute to it. its great for improving, Running Technique and Posture, stabilizes Shoulders and Neck.

It depends what you're after. If strength is the goal -

  12. Personally I've never noticed any growth in my neck from shrugs, working my shoulders or compound lifts, whereas bridges and a few other neck exercises have seen my neck grow a little.

I think everybody who is involved with a contact sport should spend time on strengthening their neck. I'd say a neck harness would be safer than doing bridges.
